Rare Craigslist Find...

Hey all,

Thought I'd post this in case anyone was looking. I'm highly tempted myself to buy it, but I'm not sure about buying a truck with almost 200k on the meter. However, it's a 1999 black Sport 4Runner with supercharger, 5Spd, and e-Locker (and some other goodies)! Definitely a very rare combination.

Take a look.

Considering that you can probably find a 4x4 4Runner with 125K for less than $6500, I would not pay $8000-$9000 for one with 200,000.

You would be better off buying one with lower mileage for $7000 or less and then spending $2k on mods.

Also I don't see what is that rare besides the supercharge which will be very expensive to fix in the near future.

My buying criteria would be:

1) < 125,000 miles
2) not a salvage title
3) 4x4 (hopefully w/locker)
4) maintenance records

X2.

Or even buy one for 5-6k$ and supercharge it yourslef.

It is not black, but IJM. And has Black Gorilla Lug Nuts! So easily worth $9K. :)

Seriously, it's worth what someone will pay for it, a 1999 Highlander 5spd supercharged locked is the holy grail of 3rd gen 4Runners in a lot of people's minds, and they don't come up for sale that often. However, rebuilt transmission at 104K has to make you wonder. At least you'd want to look it over close to see what else has been beat on. You might be buying $9K worth of problems.

If the engine is in good shape that IS literally the Holy Grail of 4 Runners.
99' Highlander with E Locker and SC, already been lifted.
If body and interior are in really good condition that would easily be worth $7000.

Buy it for $7000, rebuild the engine for $2500 and you have the most sought after 4Runner on the market with a new engine for under 10K.
Could still have 100K miles left in it if it was properly taken care of.

But then again, it may be so beaten up that its not worth $4000

I see dead stock and beaten to hell 98-02 4Runners around here with between 150-190Kmiles selling for more than 7K every time I look at craigslist, that one if you could get it for anything close to 7K would be a steal compared to what I usually see.

I paid $7,700 for mine and was doing back flips & cartwheels because I got such a good deal compared to everything I had seen for months.

Not black? Well I am colorblind... Some of those green 4Runners (Mica jade whatever) look black to me in pictures, not to say the green ones aren't pretty cause they definitely are! I'm not looking to buy, but thought I'd put it out there if anyone else was interested.

As I already have all the stuff (minus the bumper additions and supercharger) on my 4Runner with less than 130,000 miles I think I'm good. Instead of buying that one and fixing up the motor it would be cheaper for me to just buy a SC and get it installed on my current 4Runner. Alas, someday....

Definitely a great combination, but 9k for 200k is not worth it. These days a supercharger is nice, but very easy to come by. People are sell S/C's for 1k all the time. If they have all the upgrades then it's a different story.

well I got lucky then. minus the SC I got a 5sp, rear locker and such.
now I have put enough$ to be at the 9k range with all my CBI armor.

loving my rig though.

The ad doesn't even say that it's 4WD... so you're paying $9k for a 2WD rig with 200K and a supercharger that's likely worn out? :wtf:

It DOES have a locker, is a 5 spd, and has some nice wheels & tires, but I believe it's worth closer to 6-7k.

comfy in the lounger, beverage and chips.....check........fibrillation paddles in hand.......check ............ok ready.

Who's gonna tell'em........

wait for it.......wait for it......wait for it......

fyi.....I paid 5K for my sr5, leather, sunroof, 5sp, 1gen s/c and e locker.

That price sounds about right for a white '97. The black 1999 Highlander w/ leather, 5-speed and e-locker is definitely the crown jewel of 3rd-gen 4runners, although green is nice too. How is the 1st gen S/C holding up for you?

I dont get chubby over a highlander. My rig is close enough aside from the non-functioning hood scoop and painted bumpers. Mine is a 99' and had the tall coils until I popped in the OME stuff. It has an ARB front bumper, so color keyed bumper is out. Rear has been painted black, so that it out too. Its an SR5 with the skinny black flares and has the rear E-locker.

I figure I will keep it another year or so before it hits 200k and scoop up a 1st gen Tundra since a P/U would be nice. I will keep ya'll in mind when I am ready to sell. Its been in Oregon its entire life so zero rust and I am the 2nd owner. And I wont be asking no $9k either...
