You have the sport seats. They look pretty flattened. PO must have been a big guy. It sounds like an interesting story, but it's a common fate for a 3rd gen in the NYC area. One ended up in Liberia, one ended in Sierra Leone, one ended up in Afghanistan. They ship these things to various parts of the third world when one pops on online for cheap. Frame rust and accidents don't matter either, they will fix it when it gets there. They can also turn a 300k truck into a 50k truck if you get what I'm saying.

They are pretty flat, hence the pads! The guy that sold the 4Runner to me said the PO was a slight Chinese couple!! Who knows!
My Wife and I just returned from vacation in Nicaragua. I noticed lots of 4Runners and Hilux 4dr PU's.

All the 3rd gens I looked at, close up, were 5 spd diesels! As a matter of fact, most of the trucks were diesels...
Wow, didn't know our old trucks ended being exported... but it makes sense, after what other curious creations I saw on the road, on holiday.

Radiant Red was the more common of the bright reds. It replaced Cardinal Red in 1997 and lasted up to 2000. You have a rare two-tone Radiant Red which was only available in 2000. What is the paint code for the flares?

OK up here in frozen tundra Canada drinking tall cans of 5% SteamWhistle brews and the odd shot of Jaeger to stave off the cold...brrrr!!
Curious on production #'s on the "Badlands" models,,,know of a"02" for sale black with auto...has the "bulge hood" but no running boards??
Also seen a 99 black SR5 5speed standard with leather interior and sun roof??
Is a 3rd geberation "Badlands" model available with 5speed standard?
Any ideal on production#"s on any of these models

Locker, leather, and 5-speed is a rare combination. Check out the black pearl badges. Someone knew what they were doing when they ordered it.

It wasn't bad when my truck was a DD & the only vehicle I owned. Driving a stick becomes second nature. Now that I've been driving a car to work for the last few years the auto is nice in traffic.

I agree, it's not bad... my 1st car was a 65 mustang, was auto for the 1st 8months of the 5 years I owned it.

it's the wife that I have to convince to get it... it is 2nd nature when you're used to it, every once in a while I find myself looking for the clutch in the runner.

True.
Sport, manual trans, sunroof, no elocker, cloth interor and original owner and it's still running great.
Probably 10,000 miles offroad, 240,000 on the original engine and trans.
ARB locker a few years ago.

(The Highlander name was slang for the Sport as far as I know. It was called The Sport package in 2000)

Interesting thread. I agree that the rarest 3rd gen would be a one year color and is not necessarily the most sought after, today and back in the day when they were being ordered new.

I too want to know more about the Badlands edition.

I wish I knew what the paint code was. Is it on the door tag somewhere? When I bought it one of the mudguards was broke, and I ordered one. The color was close, but not exact.

Then the other night some dumbass hit it in a parking lot (and left), and now I have to replace that same one again. I'm hoping to get it right this time! hwell:
