Rattle at 2000 RPM, is it my cat?

I have a rattle that begins around 2000 RPM and disappears around 2500. I think it's coming from my cat. I've had a cat converter fail on me in the past and if I remember correctly I think it rattled at idle, not just specific RPM ranges.

I've tried banging on it when I'm parked and it doesn't seem to sound the same, hard to tell. So I'm not sure if it's bad, but I am sure that if I take it to a shop they'll tell me it's shot and I need a new one. (Don't trust shops much).

Any ideas?

Check all along your exhaust to see if anything can move. I had the rear rubber holder piece break on me so the exhaust would rub against the hitch receiver at certain rpms. I don't know much about cats so can't say much in that regard...

I've had the same rattle. Turns out it was the bolts holding the cage around the cat. I took the old bolts off and put new stainless ones on.Rattle gone. Hope this helps.
