Awful rattle from rear after LC lift, started maybe a week and a half/two weeks after initial install. Not sure what else to try, but see last paragraph for what I've tried, if you want to skip the story.
Last post was long and drawn out so I'll keep this as short and sweet as possible.
Did the LC lift about a month ago. Went about as you'd expect, minus the shocks (Part # 48531-69417) not coming with any washers, and needing to improvise something to take their place. I called Toyota and they said the hardware bag should have had them in there, and wanted to charge me $17 per washer, but I guess that's another story.
Anyway, skip to a day or two later, clunk noise from rear over bumps. Get under there, realize one of the washers I had used wasn't adequate and the cushion had come up over the bolt, so drivers side shock was moving around a ton. Not a problem, find another washer, tighten it up, done and done.
Fast forward again to about a week later, and things are going well. Then, rattle comes back. Not as bad as before, (More of a CLUNK-BANG first time around) but still pretty audible. Since then, I have not been able to get it to go away.
You can move BOTH shocks side to side with your hands and a little force.
I have cranked down on the top mounting bolts on multiple occasions, to no avail. Checked Torque spec on both sides, reinstalled both sides, while simultaneously switching the washers to different locations, etc. etc. I am worried that this will cause the mount points to widen out, and create a whole new problem. Seems to have already happened, which I don't understand because it just started happening one day, there was no gradual increase - but I'm hopeful either way. I guess we'll see. Either way, at this point I'm willing to try anything, so please suggest whatever you can think of. I did some searching, and found a few comments that referenced suspension rattle, but nothing with any concrete leads.
