rattlling noise from sunglass holder on the roof?

on the smooth road, no problem. but less than smooth road in the city driving, i get this annoying rattling noise from sunglass holder. it's more like a buzzing noise that drives me nuts. btw, it's 2006 T4R, barely two weeks old.

i know it's from the sunglass holder because when i hold the sliding switch or keep it open, the noise disappears. when i put my sunglass in it, the noise is worse. but noise without anything in it is worse enough to drive me nuts...

any solution? i do not want to take it to the dealership yet cuz i'm afraid they might mess it even more.

I have the same problem on my 05 .... I assume you could just stick a piece of felt or something between the enclosure to stop it from rattling. I will give it a try when I get home.

I've heard that also. Mostly when I'm on a bad road though. It's rare for me to hear it, and doesn't really bother me when I do, since the roads it happens on, i don't drive daily. but it should be easily fixable. probably some extra foam in the headliner around the area. but that i'm not sure about, something i haven't really looked into since i don't hear it that often. it's easily reproducable, just have the dealership service guy with me on one of the roads i always hear it on, if i decide to have them fix it, and not just fix it myself.

noise gone!

i got this "felt pads" from local hardware store (Lowe's). It's 3/4 inches in size and self-sticky. If you see the picture, you will notice that i cut one side with a knife because 1. it's easy to align the pad with the side cut, 2. the pad will slightly touch the latch hook when open and close the door without cutting the edge.

the noise is now completely gone. i'm hoping somebody from Toyota sees this post and include this 'sticky pad' as a standard item for the 2007 T4Rs :

haha, nah I just get a head ache when people slam the kitchen cabinet doors and the old bumpers had worn down. Had to buy a new set.

I've got this same problem in my '06 SR5, but the felt pads didn't help. My dealer heard it too, and also suggested felt pads, but didn't have a solution himself...
I've only hear it when I hit a bump, and its kind of a buzzing/vibration. I've left the sunglass holder open at times, and it still does it... so I'm not sure the felt would help...
To me it sounds like the wiring that powers the lights is loose and moving around causing the noise. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get the sunglass holder out to try and fix it. Anyone know how?

The good news is that it's very easy. The bad news is that you'll probably break or bend some of the clips doing it. Still, it might give you some other ideas.

I took out the sunglass holder, and noticed a square, light colored piece of plastic that lays freely inside the hole in the roof. I moved it around a little and noticed it made the same kind of noise I was getting. I used some duct tape to secure it down, as well as added some felt where I thought there could be any plastic-to-plastic contact. That was a week ago and I havn't heard any vibrations or rattles since.
