Re-doing a worn out seat

well my Runner is an 0'3 and over the last few years my 240lb body has taken a toll on my drivers seat. The leathers starting to get wrinkely no matter how much leather conditioner i put on there, and there is little to no cushin left for my bottom:sobbing: and i drive ALOT. I'm tired of having my old grandma pad to sit on because it looks pretty ghetto.... hopping out of a nice ride and your sitting on a butt pad LOL.

Is there a way to pull up the leather on the bottom half of the seat and possibly slip something under there? or would it be best to just get it fixed with new foam or whatever it is? how much if anyones done it?

Thanks!

I would buy the stock toy foam and replace that, the leather covers are stupidly priced high. the foam is not too bad, think around 150 ish if I remember about in the ball park.

or find one at a scrap yard and kife the parts you need. but you never know what you are getting, you could prolly make a passenger side foam slip right in, they usually have substantially less wear than the drivers seat.

I had a similar problem with my 98 Pathfinder when it approached 300k miles. I'm 6'3 and weight about 230.

So I swapped the passenger and drivers seat pans. worked GREAT. Took about 3 hours total. Had to do a little modification to each seat pan to get it to work.

I'll second MikeInNH's suggestion. Most of those lower seat sections are more-or-less interchangeable unless the power seat controls and other stuff need to punch-through.

It might be easier to just shop around and find a salvage yard that has a rear-ended Runner, that often will twist-up the back of the driver's seat such that it's only suitable for salvaging the upholstery and lower section from. I was poking around under my seats the other day, from what I recall, there are just a bunch of the usual spring clips around the lower inside lip of the seat that hold the upholstery in place.

There's not much you can do with the leather to make it taut again; conditioner just keeps it supple, but leather stretches and there's not really a good way to make it shrink (and not risk ruining it). Re-stretching the leather would probably weaken it, because it'll just stretch even more when you sit on it.
