I am regearing to 4.88 and was unsure if I need to have a tune done after the regear or if the computer should just be left at factory settings. Thanks yall

Thanks, I had never heard of anyone having to do it but it was the first time my friend had done a 5th gen 4runner so he was kinda skeptical to drive it since he has had issues with some jeep builds he has done in the past.

If you haven't yet decided on who to do your re-gears, I would suggest East Coast Gear Supply in Louisburg, North Carolina. They are a leader in the Differential and Axle Industry. They usually have differentials in stock that they can rebuild and ship to you. This is convenient because your rig is only down for as long as it takes you to swap out the diffs. Then you send yours back in the same boxes the rebuilt diffs arrived in to satisfy the core charge.

Good info. They are famous for their front axle bushing replacement on 5th gens. I’ll check them out. But, I will have my shop r&r the diffs. That’s because my motto is opposite of your old man.

Don't sell yourself short. Auto Mechanics isn't that hard. If you have the Right Information, Right Tools and Right Level of Patience, you can turn wrenches just as well as anyone. You just have to apply yourself and be willing to put the time in to learn.

ECGS is the jam and would definitely be my recommendation too. Long story short, the guy I talked to at ECGS and I had some mutual friends and they connected me with this guy. The first guy at ECGS talked to told me I would need a tune too so I guess it isn't too uncommon with some rigs ??

I know. I use to do everything when I was younger. I just don’t have the motivation or patience anymore.

I feel ya. I find myself lacking motivation for things in my late 50's and I lack patience too. But, I seem to be able to muster the motivation for turning wrenches. I lose my patience regularly making videos, but I just scream and curse for a while, and then get back to the job at hand.

I'm re-geared to 4.56 and tuned. I don't love it, but I don't hate it...like everyone says the ECU doesn't know I am re-geared
