I swear my 14 TE has 4.11's in it. It's way to peppy with F&R bumpers, winch, roof rack and bigger tires to be 3.73's.

I swear Toyota has never had a 4.11 gear set for the 8.2 rear diff. The only gears Toyota put in the 5th gen 4runner are 3.73s and 4.56s in the dozen or so 4 cylinder 5th gens they made. You can get 3.91 gears from the 2010+ 6 speed manual FJC.

The 2014 4runner NEVER came from Toyota with a 4.11 gears, and to my knowledge no 5th gen 4runner ever did either
No idea what product sheet your Toyota dealers are looking at but ask them to take a screen shot of it and send it to you if you don't believe us.
If by some magical means you do indeed have 4.11 gears I will relent until then :gun4:

So, what the hell is going on here? All these dealers are reading the VIN wrong? I have always thought they were 3.73..... I'm just saying it's really weird. I'll call another dealer on Monday and see what they say. At the very least, it would show some kind of glitch in the VIN system.

Ok for those that have 4.56 gears... what RPM are you at when running 75mph and what tire size are you running.
Currently; I'm dealing with lack of grunt in my 4runner by leaving it on 4th on the streets and only shifting to 5th once I pass 65mph. And by doing this I went from 13mpg to 14 to 15mpg. Just by forcing the transmission not to down shift all the time.

Also - FWIW it has been a looooong time since Toyota sold a 4.11 diff. Probably around 30 years ago or more. IIRC it was about 1980 or earlier.
4.11 gears are weaker than 4.10. 4.10 has a 10 tooth pinion while 4.11 uses a 9 tooth pinion. There's not a good reason I can think of why anyone would ever build a 4.11 gear set. I know they exist - even in the aftermarket - I don't know why.
Just wanting to set that straight. If a dealer ever tells you you have 4.11 gears and you're not calling in a 1978 fj40 - the dealer is probably wrong.
