Re-seal rack and pinion or not?

I noticed my OEM rack was going and bought the parts to reseal and rebuild. I had taken mine off and noticed I bottomed it out and dented it. So went to a pick and pull got one off a runner. Bought new inner and outer tie rods then rebuilt the whole the whole thing with seals and such I already had. I definately recommend doing it that way. You won't want to pull it out again just to reseal it in 50 to 70k. Do it all now and be done with it. Enjoy the new steering!
A new rack from Toyota comes with new innner tie rods. If you need to replace the rack just order one from Toyota and be done.

I already had the parts to rebuild for the most part...it's the only reason I did it that way
So how difficult was it to rebuild it?

I have the same question. From the looks of it from the factory service manual, tearing the steering rack apart looks like a pain in the ass and requires some special tools.

It was a pain. Would I do it again...NO! But the OP is inquiring about rebuilding a rack vs buying one...it Did save money compared to going to the dealership to buy OEM, but I did lose a weekend and some change. Tool wise...I know a guy who has everything. His dad repaired T.V.'s ( stereos, computers, etc)so you can relate right Tim?
Haha for real though friends dad in Fresno has a setup in the barn complete with lifts, welding, and everything toolwise you could need...Just a long drive to get there.
