Ready to buy a 2015 TEP, question on finding one

I got my TEP about a month ago. The dealer ordered it off the boat that was to arrive within the week. When it arrived and went to talk price the dealer looked at me like I was crazy for wanting anything under MSRP. They would absolutely not discount a TEP since it was as rare as unicorn farts.

I said 1550 off MSRP was my top price and walked. They also offered 3K less than carmax on the trade in.

After many calls to me with other offers which I said no, you have my max offer they finally met it and matched carmax on my trade in.

I am in the Milwaukee market and was looking for a TP. Found one at Safro Toyota in Brookfield, (will never do business with them BTW due to attitude and price gouging) that had sat on their front lawn with a sold sign, for approx 2 weeks. It ended up being a dealer trade.

The sales rep was rude and useless and told me that they don't deal on TP or TRD Pros due to demand/rarity.

I went to cars.com and found an Inferno TRDPro 100 miles away in Chicago. Called and asked if still available and it was. (Just landed at the dealer the day before). Put a hold on it, drove down and sealed the deal that night. Ended up paying $3,450 below MSRP. Had the deal negotiated in 20 minutes and picked her up the next day. As I was picking it up, the sales manager received a call from a party in MA that had also found the car on cars.com, and wanted it shipped to him immediately. Just proves that timing is everything.

Well worth the drive to ChiTown. Historically the Milwaukee market is small for most dealers and there isn't that much competition. So every dealer is in love with their cars. I have found that by driving to a more competitive Chicago market, I can save anywhere from $3,000 - $5,000 depending on make and model.

Loving my 2015 Inferno TRD Pro and in the 2 days I have owned it, have already received several positive comments/thumbs up and 2 offers to buy it.

Dealers in NorCal would not do anything other than $1,000 off MSRP for two different SR5P I was looking for over Labor Day. One didn't even respond and the other stopped after I asked for invoice and he told me to be more realistic.

I used truecar for pricing and Cars.com to do an expanded search since Toyota's inventory search was complete dogshit.

Longo in SoCal had two exact SR5Ps same build, MSRP and color. I emailed Longo asked for pricing and was blown away how much below they were compared to the Bay Area dealers.

I gave the dealer who was 15 minutes from me one last shot and he didn't respond to my phone calls or email.

I booked a one way flight the next day. Drove the car 300+ miles home. I think it took me longer waiting for the Longo shuttle to grab me from the airport and drive from LAX to the dealer than it did signing paperwork and taking delivery. It was right around two hours from me touching down to me driving home.

Longo beat the local dealers price by $2700+. Well worth me spending a day to get the truck.

OP if you do buy out-of-state, the DMV process is actually pretty easy. the 4runners are 50-state compliant, so emissions are OK. you have to pay the sales tax here in CA at your local DMV, the DMV website has a calculator for that.

you need to make an appointment at the DMV for an in-person inspection, which was simple. you get plates handed to you right then and there.

I rented a car 1-way to McCarran airport. drove to henderson, made my deal quickly, the sales guy followed me to McCarran and gave me a ride back to my new car. not only was it easy, but it was fun, and felt GREAT not giving my money to the socal dealers, who were anywhere from meh to crappy to deal with.

the difference between dealerships can be remarkable. it's your money, if they don't want it, find somebody who does.

roadster looks like it wouldn't be a bad idea if you don't want to be directly involved in the negotiations. Is it worth $695 (delivery fee and concierge service)? Depends on how much your time is worth to you.

If you are still looking I know where there is a NEW 2015 white TRD PRO For $37500, Which is a TEP only a bit better. It is in Surprise Az at the Toyoya of Surprise dealership. It has been on the lot for over a month. Surprise is a city about 30 miles nw of Pheonix. Not but a few hundred miles from you. If you contact them talk to Bill Kopta, I bought a 2014 SR5 from him and he was more than fair.

Saw a TEP without KDSS in MGM at Findlay in Flagstaff AZ. You could probably get Findlay in LV to get it from them and save you a trip to AZ. That's if you didn't want KDSS.

Findlay in LV should have one in MGM with KDSS. They are a huge dealership and stock everything.

I'm on the same boat. Trying to find one and lock it down is exhausting in Northern CA. Especially when none of the So. Cal dealerships want to work a dealer trade because they are "too valuable". Had a deal on a '15 from So. Cal that fell though today, now it is looking more like a '16 in a few months.

Side note, I can't get dealers down below the $40K mark, so you're beating me on that one. Good luck on the one you found, keep fighting the unwinnable fight! :ybrick:

Try Lithia toyota in medford oregon. Super easy process and they will deal. Got my sr5 for 34,700.

I checked Edmunds.com, and it said the only 2015 TEP MGM in my area was in Pasadena. Just to be sure, I googled Toyota dealers in my area, and opened a new tab for each dealer and checked each dealer's inventory. Just to be triply sure, I called my local dealer (Tustin Toyota), and the said there's one in Pasadena (I knew that), and the next one is ~300 miles away. So off I went to Pasadena to snag it.

Edmunds.com seemed like a reliable resource to find an inventoried vehicle.
