Ready to purchase but a few questions

Getting ready to pull the plug on a 2012 Limited....trading in my wife's 2008 Urban Edition 4runner with 63K...Dealer is giving us 21K on trade against invoice so I feel that is a pretty good deal...

Anyways thinking of some things...One we will want to install headrest TV's..have them in the 08 and am going to move them. I can get the blank headrest and move the monitors to the new headrest that will match...Anyways has anybody installed them in the new generation yet? If so how do you remove the back of the front seat to fish the wires down?

Remote start...dealer is trying to tell me only go factory...I will do aftermarket..Which brand seems to be most popular?

As far as the deal think I should press for better since the 13's are starting to come in?

I did an overhead monitor. The 5th gen has plenty of space and you get a much bigger screen. I am sure you can have the old ones installed in your new ride, but then you have a lot of extra work and have to put new headrests in the old one. Not worth it IMO.

OEM remote start, IMO, sucks. When you remote start it, it will shut off (at least in my year, 2010) when you open the door. An aftermarket system will not have this issue.

As far as the price, there is not much different in the two years so I doubt they will budge. It is always worth a try though.

Chevy probably has the best remote start from the factory... you have to press lock, and then hold the remote start button, however when you press unlock it does not kill the engine. You simply insert the key and turn it to the on position, a message displays on the display and you put the car in drive and take off. Wish Toyota had something similar because it is a useful feature, especially in Kansas with cold winters and hot summer.

But they also have the dumbest ideas as well. Why in the hell do their reverse lights come on when you unlock them? So irritating in parking lots. Sit there to let them back up, then notice they are still walking to the damn truck.

It's just to give someone illumnated entry at night when the vehicle may be parked in a dark area.
 
Thanks all. About ready to do the deal. Got the dealer down to $40000 and 21400 for trade in.

One question. What is the widest tire I can put on the limited stock rims with no rubbing. The oem tires look horrible I think.

That's a good trade amount, but $40k is high for a 12' LE.
 
I am right there price wise. Using your suggestion for math puts it at 39800 they are at 40 but Plus prob getting 1500 more on trade than I should. Just 2nd guessing if we should upgrade. We love the urban edition and it runs great but getting over 21k on trade on a vehicle we paid 32k for 4 years ago.

If we pull the plug what tires will fit without any mods ?
 
I have a Compustar 2W901R-SS installed on my Limited and think it's very good. However it does shut down once the doors are opened-I had thought that was only an OEM starter issue. I contacted customer support to see if this is a programmer feature, and the response I got was "the limitation of the vehicle shutting down once the door is opened, has nothing to do with the Compustar, but the brand of transponder bypass being used. Currently there is no takeover solution from the bypass companies we deal with (Fortin and ADS)" :ybrick:

When I asked about the development of a bypass, it's in the works and they hope firmware will be released by year end. In the meantime, it's a pain(but got no choice).

As for the tires, as others will suggest, lots of threads on this (using the search). Review this..info on rim limitations and what folks have tried.

Hmmm... I need to check on this now. Thanks for the link. It reads to me that way (I'm no expert) and so I'm going to get back in touch and also chat with my dealership. Great find.

Good luck on the tires..look into the daystar lift as well-lots of folks here have done this and looks great on the limited with the upgraded shoes.
