Rear axle removal video?

I'm trying to find a video for Toyota truck/4runner rear axle removal. 1st/2nd gen. Have FSM, various online written info exists, but can't find a decent video.

Youtube has other makes, or some landcruiser info, lots of brake jobs, and most anything Toyota axle, is front axle service, or CV/axle joint service.

Anyone ever found one?

The reason you cant find a video is because thats about as simple as it gets. The FSM is plenty to get you through this.

What are you trying to get out the 3rd?

I don't have a video, but what's hanging you up? Are you pulling the axle shafts, or the entire thing?

Haha...nothing very pressing in particular to do. I just wanted to watch a video for the sake of watching a video and I just got obsesed that I couldn't find any.

Basically, it started with fixing my ebrake this weekend and then since my backing plate is so rusty around the edges it's peeling off it then turned to backing plate replacement, then became disk brake conversion which then became; while i'm at it...chromo axles. It's now...just replace the wheel cylinders....pretty cheap here (FJ60 1" Wheel Cylinder, Upgrade for 1986-1995 Pickup, 4Runner - Brakes - 1979-1995 Hilux | Pickup | 4Runner - Toyota Parts) and get a cheap scrap yard spare axle.

I only did it once with some help. It's just nice to see a memory jogger video.

But some stuff to clear up or confirm.

1) Backing plate replacement requires removing the axles. Removing axles doesn't require any work in the 3rd. The axle would just pull out?

2) 3rd removal requires removal of both axles or you can't pull it out?

3) left and right rear axles are the same? As in one one spare is good for both sides? No left / right.

It was a few years ago.

They are semi-floating, so they just pull out of the 3rd.

2) 3rd removal requires removal of both axles or you can't pull it out?

Yes, both axles must come out.

3) left and right rear axles are the same? As in one one spare is good for both sides? No left / right.

The shafts are the same, but the backing plates/breaks are right/left.

You can pull the axles without pulling the third, but you can't pull the third without pulling the axles. The rear shafts are identical on each side, one spare is enough.

Do I even need the second outer lip on the backing plates....
