Finished welding the gussets and notching them with the grinder. I also drilled through the rectangle tube and tacked the receiver and trusses on. I ran out of wire so this is all I got to tonight. I only have about a weeks worth of welding experience so don't give me too much hate on my welds. This beast is already ~85lbs! I'll post some photos of my side panel mock ups tomorrow when I have daylight.

I had no idea welds that nice were even possible on a harbor freight welder. You must be a patient person.

Welds look nice! Good prep and patience. Since learning to weld I would love to get back on a bigger welder and turn up the heat more lol.

As for the welds using a HF brand with limited experience under your belt they look pretty good,you should be proud

Thank you! I am very proud! I spent probably 3 months researching about welding before I ever even touched a welder. My project has slowed at the moment just out of lack of time currently. Hopefully the next week will pick back up. I have the side panel designed just no photos to show yet. I also got held up with another project because I got ticketed for not having mud flaps so I had to fab up a set of 'rock tamers' to pass police inspection.

Just purchased some mounts for D-rings and some red Smittybilt D-rings. Just waiting on the mail man...

I know the thread has gone quiet but I just started working on the bumper again. Here are the D-Ring tabs tacked on. I am waiting for my friend (the guy who has tools to cut the metal) to come back from his trip so I can get cranking on the side panels.

Any recommendations on tire carrier hinges? DIY ideas or cheap places to get them?

I know the double sheer is popular and fairly reasonable but I used heim joints and saved a good bit of money. Plenty sturdy for a joint and smooth as silk for turning. Just make sure you get joint wiper seals if you go this route. Your joints would probably need to be closer together or almost on top of each other but I like the adjustment the joints provide.

I've seen both of those hinges and the only problem is the price! $80 for a hinge would be a large fraction of the overall cost.

You must be getting bored by now but I am on another pause because I recently just found a TRD Supercharger and an E-Locker that I might be purchasing. If this deal goes through the bumper build is going to be set back quite a while. I should find out this week if it is going to happen or not.
