Rear Bumper Configuration??

Say you were thinking about a rear bumper (due to someone who's user name rhymes with weee). Say that you're not thinking about the need for a tire swing, etc. Would you order the bumper alone, or would you order the bumper with lettuce, tomato and cheese knowing that you'd be storing the lettuce, tomato and cheese and may never use them? It's a major cost consideration ...and for me, the lettuce, tomato and cheese would require rebuilding my garage so it fits.

Thoughts?

--I knowingly left out the bacon option as it would undoubtedly skew peoples responses.

You should buy the bumper with all the attachments and remove them when you don't need them.

If you're talking about a burger I recommend everything plus extra bacon

If you do not order them upfront do they delete the hinge mount and catch or something? I would just make sure they build the bumper to allow for you to order them at a later time if you choose. Cant image that is not doable.

I am perfectly happy with my bumper and no swing out. I am still putting a lot of miles on my truck and there were more negatives for the swing out right now. The issue is that in a few years I might wish I had it, and adding it does not seem economically feasible. If I had thought about it more I might have asked CBI if they would go ahead and weld on the pin for the future. It would be out of the way and really effect nothing.

The alternative now would be to look at one of those hitch mounted options, I believe CBI and a few other places offer them. They generally don't provide as much departure angle though since they stick out so it isn't a perfect solution. Depends on need and want I guess...

:suspicious:

It really depends on why you need the rear bumper. If you plan on only using it for the added clearance, ordering it with no swing out is probably your best bet. If you want the added utility, you should do it with the swing out and all the options, because otherwise it's not cost/labor effective to have it added later.

FWIW if it's a space issue with the tire carrier mounted, I believe you can remove the tire carrier portion of the swing out on the SW bumper. My buddy also removes his swing out on his rear bumper (non-SW) when he's around town and puts it back on before trips. Might want to try giving Mark a ring and asking how easy it would be to do either of these.

Get it with fries and a drink... And a self-storage locker. Saves rebuilding the garage as well.

Since I'm counting down the days till my trip to CBI, I know what you are going through. You will always compromise somewhere. Want vs need vs fits garage vs wife allows vs cost always come into play. I checked as many boxes as the wife allowed in the budget. You may not have the opportunity again as life happens.

Okki

I bought the burger, er, bumper, plain a couple months ago. I went around and around about whether I would use the lettuce, tomato, and cheese often enough to justify the expense and ultimately decided no. And I'm a guy who loves his cheese. Of course if my income was what it was 2 years ago I would have had it all the way without even considering the options. Choices, choices......

You raise the bumper up, but still have the spare hanging down there?

Didn't really raise the bumper. Just made it harder to tear off. It's been without that silver cap for almost 2 years now. Lol.

I gained quite a bit, but then I have a Limited, not much difference for you guys. The spare hasn't really been an issue, but then I also just have a 265 under there.

I run my rig with the swing out on and off. I have developed two distinct personalities for my Morena. She has both and everyday and expedition mode.

if would order the full monty.
you can take off the swing out and put it back anytime, just 1 big bolt.
I would also ask mark to add a tab with a 3/8"-24 nut welded onto it to use as a place to mount your dune flag, that's what i did. it was an extra $50 for the dune flag mount.

Recently I was faced with this same question. SSS made the point that you can order it with the swing arm attachments and just take it off if you need it, but can't add the spindles at a later time. That made me order attachments for my SSS rear bumper. It's just one of those things if you don't get it now, later on down the road you might wished that you had got it.
