rear bumper conversion from 2003 to 2006+ inputs info

i am looking to do a rear bumper conversion from a 2006 upwards to my 2003 4runner. Someone scratched the rear bumper at my work parking lot so either i can repair that one or i was thinking to put a 2006 one on. Since i already have the leds in the back and i always liked the 2006 look from the rear.

I was hoping that someone over here can guide me? should it be straight plug and play? like the leds tail lights or i have to do some modifications. I never do any off-roading so aftermarket are out of the equation.

The only concern I would have it whether the rear fender flares on your '03 actually line up properly with the '06+ bumper. The flares are not only a different shape, but they do stick out further from the body.

I am on the same boat like OP to do this conversion of a 06+ rear bumper on an earlier model year. Derek, do u think it will line up on a 2004 with a 06+ rear bumper? OP, sorry to hi jack your thread.

I'm not 100% sure either way but I would think that if you installed an '06+ rear bumper you would probably also have to replace the rear fender flares so they line up. But then you'd have the square fender flares in the front and rounded in the back. Take a look at this other thread where it is the opposite problem... an '03-'05 front end was installed on an '06+ 4Runner http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/122142-2006-two-different-front-ends.html

I have about 75% of the body panels to swap my 03 cladding to that of an 06+.....you can't just do the rear bumper...the flares are about 1" wider on the 06+.....not to mention all the impact stuff and quarter panel mounting brackets. ....the flares are wider, the door mouldings are different and the front fenders are wider. Its really not something you can do just one part of. You really need to do it all to flow together. Now you could feather the rear flares into the bumper with fiberglass work but thats about it...so far it is all bolt on between the years but the bumpers are the cheapest parts....the doors brand new are about $300 per piece....all mine are form ebay and i am only missing one rear door and the opposite rear quarter flare

Have you started pulling your old cladding off?

Quick question....why would you want to do this?

IMO the 2003-2005 bumpers look more "4x4" and less "cross-over-ish"

I had an 03 and still have my 08....miss the looks of the textured grey panel, OEM push bar and rear bumper....miss it a lot.

Sent a PM...but no i have not yet. Still looking for whats remaining. Either way mine wont be the same as yours for replacment. Yours have a texture on them. Mine are painted. Your quarter and fender flares have like 3-4 huge bumps or indentations in them that mine do not
