Someone rear ended me. I got a claim estimate by their insur. How much does it cost to to replace the 02 rear metal bumper face and plastic step piece and repaint it color parts paint and labor? Total cost done professionally with everything included?

I prefer original parts and why shouldn't I restore it to original condition when the damage was not my fault.

I would take it to a bodyshop or three for an estimate. Tell the shop that the other persons insurance is paying and to not skip out on ANY details. Take pictures and a video too.

It's the job of the other insurance company to pay out as little as possible. You need to make your case with professional estimates.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between years 1996-2000 for the rear face bumper bracket? Aren't the bumpers identical except for the fender flares?

Its taken me a year sourcing the three bumper pieces and now I need the brackets. The brackets are $70 ea. go figure.

I know for sure they're the same on 97's and 98's. I can't answer for the other years though, but I would assume so.

Someone rear ended me. I definitely got a low claim estimate by their insur. How much does it cost to to replace the 02 rear metal bumper face and plastic step piece and repaint it the thundercloud color parts paint and labor? Total cost done professionally with everything included?

Any estimates based on experiences?

it depends. You can easily find replacement parts on Amazon to save yourself a TON of money, and then have a bodyshop paint them. Years ago someone backed into my old beater saturn in a snowstorm, and the repair estimate was $2,600. I bought the car back after they totalled it and bought the replacement parts on ebay (junkyard) and it cost me $104.

Does anybody have a guess, estimate based on previous experiences in terms of cost??

You can price it out yourself if you want here:
Toyota Parts Direct - Your Online Store For Toyota Parts - Quality Toyota Parts

I would estimate paint to be about $200-$300 for factory matching and proper clear coats.

PS. I agree to go with a new aftermarket rear. I mean, if my TV was stolen and valued at $600 when I bought it 2 years ago, and insurance is going to give me $600 to replace it, since the TVs have gotten better in that 2 years, my $600 goes a lot further... I wouldn't get another 50"... I would get a 60".... I understand wanting to keep it stock if you always want to have a mom bomb... but you have an opportunity to "upgrade" that lots of people would really appreciate. Being a generous forum member that you are, maybe consider making a trade with someone who has the factory set up you want too? Just my $0.02.

More than once I have seen people push insurance for more money and the insurance company totaled the car.

even if its not their insurance?

I get theft cars in sometimes and the customers will nit pick every ding saying "that it wasn't there before" and the cost goes up for repair and totals older vehicles like ours pretty easily. 3rd gen 4Runner I'm guessing $2,500-$3,000ish in damage would do it which is easy with body damage. Rear bumper only should be ok but you never know.

Buy back my "Totaled" 4Runner for some minor damage seems pretty good. I don't plan on selling it but for parts later on, so who cares about the title. I'll keep that number in mind.
