Rear bumper trim - removal

The black plastic cover on my rear bumper - does it just pop out and back in? I want to shoot it with a coat or two of plasti-kote paint to bring it back to life. Just wondering if it's easy to get off, without breaking it, and what is the best approach/method?

from the looks of ur photo it should have clips that hold it in place try to pry it off as gently as possible ...if not u can tape and paper around it ...good luck

Sorry, my avatar photo is probably confusing. That's my 5th gen. I'm talking about my 3rd gen limited. The rear bumper is color-matched and has a separate piece of plastic trim that runs across the length of it on top and beneath the rear door. I don't want to go pulling on it and break something and can't get it back on.

It may require removing the rear bumper. Another option is to look for a new one but it might take some searching but I remember seeing that pice somewhere for around $50-70. If I can't find one I'm just going to spray mine too.

There's just a few plastic squeeze clips holding it from the bottom. Just get under the bumper, squeeze each of them, and push up.

Yep, thanks. Piece of cake. Removed it, shot it with 2 coats of krylon satin finish black for plastic and it looks as good as new.

are these supposed to be black or gray/charcoal? mine could use replacing. i'd rather do that then paint it and then have it start peeling.

I sprayed mine with some Rustoleum bedliner about three years ago. It has held up just fine. Mine turned out a dark matte grey and has gotten a little lighter over time.

where can i buy that stuff? a new one is $68 which is a great price. obviously cheaper to paint for $10 or so.

Big box store, Lowes I think. Maybe $7. Sand it down (i used wet/dry 600 grit sandpaper with H20), wipe with acetone. One coat every 12hrs (2 total) with any touch up after that.
