Design input: Cut the rear crossmember like the 4X4labs one and relocate the hitch. It looks slimmer that way and doesn't decrease your departure angle from stock.

Should be starting the rear early next week. We are kind of getting away from the non-cut style for the rear on the 4th gen. Not completely throwing it out but for now we are going to do one that requires cutting the stock plastic bumper cover.
Going to put it lots of OT to get the front and rear bumpers done for both the 3rd and 4th gen T4R over the next 8-10 weeks.

Yup, we ship to the US and Canada.
We have focused on Tacoma and a little Tundra, now 4Runners. Check out our site, we have tons of stuff on there.

Tough to really get a good feel for how it'll look on the truck from the CAD models but it should look sweet!

I completely agree. I helped a friend of mine install one on his 4th gen and decided that it was too heavy, too bulky and not very attractive. I remember, that about two years ago, there was a fab company in Canada that had built a prototype bumper/swing away spare carrier and was going to retail it for about $300 - 400 less than the CBI, and much less bulky, yet more attractive. I'll have to look for the fabrication guy's email and find out what happened with that.

We are trying to be creative and attractive. The tubing is just an idea that we thought about throwing on for two reasons. There is nowhere to tie the corner into the truck so the corner will be a touch weak in our opinion. Other reason is aesthetics. It might look weird once on so we might not do it.

Without getting into details, it is extremely hard to make this bumper not look bulky and not be heavy. The body behind the bumper cover hangs down a lot in the corners and the bumper cover itself goes all the way up under the tail light. It is a tough bumper to design and build for sure. The 5th gen T4R is just as bad. The last gen to make a good, lightweight bumper that isn't huge was the 3rd gen.

Glad to see this happening, I had been in contact with mobtown, prior to this thread and was getting a bumper fabricated, but money fell through and I unfortunately had to abort this endeavor... excited to see the bumper!

Hmm... I actually kind of like the tubular idea. The main thing I see a lot of the aftermarket bumpers fail to do is take into account the roundness of the 4th gen. It's not an easy thing to design for and many end up looking too clunky because they try and make tons of facets to "blend" in. But the tubular top gives it a slight melding of the more angular lower section as it meets the more rounded sheetmetal.
Additionally, while I know this would be a huge pain; if you made the door opening a bit more rounded so that it matched the rear hatch it'd also seem less "clunky". I realize that's a lot of R&D/Manufacturing Effort for an aesthetic thing; but it goes a long way to making it "fit" the vehicle better.
There was a member who had a blacksmith roll his inner edges on his bumper and it looked beautiful.

Not to thread jack i just know this is a active rear bumper thread so i figured i'd post a couple pics for everybody of my 4x4 Labs that i finished building past week. Some similarities to your design with the tubing along the body line. I also added push bars off the top tube to help keep me off of trees and rocks here in the northeast which worked great this past week when I was in the woods. Again you cut off the rear cross member and about 3''- 4" off the frame rails so it tucks up nicely with the recessed hitch, I tested it out thoroughly this past week and barely scraped coming off obstacles!

I think Mobtown would benefit by fabricating a bumper that is fully bolt on. Eliminating any cutting or extensive disassembly would make it easier for enthusiasts to buy and install their bumper.
I do like the idea of cutting the crossmember but I could see most potential customers being put off by the idea and looking elsewhere. Same goes for the sides coming up to the taillights.
Personally I would be all for cutting the crossmember as long as it's structural integrity can be duplicated or improved during the bumper install. If theres a way to make it aesthetically flow with the rest of the back end without cutting the bumper and crossmember then I say go for it MobTown.
