Rear Bumper Update?

My fab guy is considering re-producing it and selling it. We'll see what happens, should know more early next year what that will look like and have a website or something.

I love the simplicity of yours, and how it still utilizes the OEM rear bumper. I definitely would be interested in getting one of these, but then shipping would cause a problem too I guess.

that does look really good, shipping would cost, but all the good bumpers are made a good distance away... do love the look of your bumper and tire carrier!

See, I'm really liking the bumpers that incorporate the top portion of the stock bumper. The curvature of our bumpers really make it difficult to keep a semi-seamless look. I realize that a steel bumper isn't ever going to look stock, but it seems cutting the bumper so that the steel one doesn't need as many angles, as much steel (weight savings), etc. NijaOne, you have a cool thing with integrating your swing-out in the reflector space of the earlier 4th gen models.

I'm really hoping to get a welder soon and seriously thinking about coming up with my own bumper... I'll need to learn to actually weld first (!!).. so I'm not lacking in ambition :)

Tell your fab guy to be careful and keep his ducks in a row, those punks at Gobi are looking for people to sue....

The pictures on the website are of my truck. I can say it has good lines and fits well. I still have not finished the swing out, I am making some mods to it to add fuel cans and a high lift. Almost done with it though.

I have ordered and waiting on a metaltech4x4 hitch for it and will have to make some cuts for it to fit. I would have it on already if it was in stock.

Swing out seems a little close to the hatch. I'd be worry about it flexing and something hitting the window. Is the spare tire going to be completely vertical?

It is close to the hatch but do not see much movement from it while on. The tire is on an angle that runs with the hatch. We will see if it hits on the trail.. but I do not see it breaking the window. Maybe hitting the chrome piece where the latch is. If it hits, I will redesign it and let him know that it is to close to the rear of the vehicle. That is all I can do.. For the price I paid to be the first "Production" Kit I cant complain. I just wish Life was not so busy for me right now so I could get it finished and done to see if it hits.

I was thinking more along the lines of the tire hitting the window or gas cans if they're mounted too high in a carrier. You're running skinny 32s, but a fatter 33-35 has a lot more meat on it which would put it closer to the window.

Do you have any pictures of how it mounts and/or reinforced on the sides? I've got a bit more custom bumper and it flexes a lot with a 35 mounted on it. Trying to figure out the best way to reinforce it so the sides don't move as much.

So I've had a few people ask me who made my rear bumper and I've consistently claimed it was custom made. After a string of events I've decided to call it out for what it is.

My rear bumper was made by mobtown. After they decided to scrap the design we came to an agreement for me to buy the prototype. I've kept things under wraps because of issues with finishing the bumper and shipping it. I was told 3 different times it was going to ship over 8 weeks and it wasn't until the 3rd missed deadline that I threatened to call them out publicly. The bumper was finished and shipped within 48 hours later. Even after getting it I've had issues so I decided not to promote them. Mobtown decided to use a pic of my rig for their own use without my permission. After asking them to remove the picture I was blocked from their Instagram. Buyer beware from mobtown.

That sucks. So did your purchase of the prototype unit include rights to the design or just the physical part itself? IP rights can be tough to nail down, especially if you just paid for the finished product and didn't pay for the design time.

The IP rights are the picture that he used without my permission. That pic was either taken off my Instagram or a tw post. Most of my pictures have a watermark on them and while I don't think that particular picture did, it was still used for business (advertising) purposes without permission.

Gotcha yeah, that's frustrating.

Throwing my hat into the ring...

Ordered a 4x4labs DIY rear bumper a month ago, I called recently to check on the progress and they said they were working on an updated design. It won't be a 'low profile trim the plastic' type of bumper from what I gather but I should get it soon and of course I will post pics. Kinda nervous because I liked their current design so much.

Really interested in the new design. I've been debating on pulling the trigger on the 4x4labs rear. I really like the high clearance. Also hearing about a possible Demello rear is intriguing too... What to do, what to do??

I really wish we can have a bumper like this for our 4runner.

I had an appointment with CBI OffRoad Fab to build me a bumper similar to this. Minus the storage box but include double jerry can holders and have the Maxtraxx mount to the side of the jerry can holder similar to the link above.

I will approach CBI again this summer and see how busy they are. I really need a aftermarket rear bumper. :(
