Rear cargo box thread?

Looks really clean. Two questions though:
1) Why store the rods for the tent in the cargo area?

Because rooftop tent... I suppose I could keep them folded in the tent, but I was worried that they may catch on something and rip it...

2) More importantly how much force would it take to rip the eyebolts you have securing it out of the box?

Its hard to tell in the picture how well it is anchored, but looks worrisome to me. You have a fair amount of weight in that box and in a rollover it is going to exert a lot of force on the 4 EDIT: (I assume) bolts. You may have already addressed this in a way I can't see, and I don't mean to bash it, but I every time I load the truck I do it as though I assume it will be in a rollover. Last thing you need is that big battery smacking you in the back of the

I hadn't had it bolted down at all for the past month and it hadn't moved though so for now like I said this is a major improvement :nono:

We always have stored ours inside the tent parallel to the hinge they are always right where we left them when we open it back up. It's one of the best parts of an RTT is it's all self contained and you can leave sleeping bags, pillows etc. inside the tent.

Get that thing bolted down! Congrats on a clean well thought out project.

Haha thanks! I keep our bedding in there now, but will have to throw those rods in there too now. I appreciate the input!

I never knew about this thread until day. I'll start by posting some pictures of my current platform. This platform has served my well over the year, but it has to go.









Now onto the new platform. This is going to more of a modular system that will allow my to remove the front section when it's not being used. I'm modeling it from 80/20 t-slop aluminum, but will most likely end up using aluminum box that I'll weld together.

today i spent most of the day building my rear cargo box. got the idea from gottabetrd box build thread.

got 1/2 inch boards had them cut to size which for me was 36inch wide 34 deep. the total height is 8.5 inches. drawers are 30inch deep buy 16 inches. here are some pics.

almost finished. just need to add some carpet and paint.

tomorrow i hope to have my doors cut for half doors.

With the seats out and the rest of the platform in it fits two REI Camp Bed sleeping pads perfectly.

It's not bad. just the right amount of bump to get the job done. I'm pretty sure i can get even more performance out of the sub if I get a better amp, but for now its perfect!

BTW I'm a sucker for sound quality too. I cant stand when people have their bass turned all the way up, or the levels all out of wack but yeah for the price, this setup is satisfying.

The board toward the front and the board going all the way across I was using to mock things up to get a visualization for my thoughts and to get measurements as well as last list of materials I will be needing like, drawer glides,handles, indoor/outdoor carpet, hinges, latch down ,eyebolts etc, Oh and 1 full sheet of birch.
Done at this point til tomorrow.
