Rear cargo box thread?

Done at this point til tomorrow..the board towards the front and the one behind the seat going all the way across are just to mock things up to visualize any ideas ,get measurements and make my last materials list for things like drawer glides, handles, indoor/outdoor carpet, latchdownd,eyebolts, hinges and 1 sheet of Birch should do it. Then install my extra battery,compressor,1500watt inverter, all in preperation for our Few day Drive Across the Mojave Desert, from oneside to the other can't wait.

And thtas it for today tomorrow will be the completion of the drawers and the extension for the bed platform.

I am loving this thread, I'm working on my design and getting hardware together. What length drawer slides are you guys using? According to my initial calculations I could fit a 40" drawer but the ones on Amazon are pricey! I know I can make them shorter and just have a storage bin anterior to it, but that'd be a pain to access when fully loaded. Thoughts?

I decided to go with a shorter one too after seeing the prices on Amazon. I went with a 24" full extension slider and it is working out great so far. Behind the drawers I made a space where I can store some extra things when the seats fold forward. I am able to store everything I need in the drawers no problem too!

So, this is my third version of a rear storage unit. Each one has been a stepping stone to the next one. Ill post more details as it all comes to together.

Wowwww! So many questions. Is the round hole for a speaker? More photos whenever.
 
My rear cargo drawer

Since I took a lot of inspiration from this thread I thought I'd add a couple photos of mine. It's a pretty basic wooden drawer with locking drawer slides I got at Lee Valley Tools, choosing those were the hardest part, I wanted it to lock open and closed but wasn't sure what kind of latch/handle was best. I settled on the lever that protrudes out the face and then added the little finger grips to aid in pulling. Kinda strange set up, but I didn't like the idea of a traditional latch turning up into the top piece making it any thicker than it had to be. The face is a sheet of 1/4" aluminum that was my dad's idea and makes it look pretty sharp in my opinion. I got the carpet at an auto upholstery place as close a match as I could, but their edging around the wheel on the driver's side is not as nice as I'd have liked. The thing is now in it's third '99 since I built it 9 months ago, after having survived a roll over and then a regretted rush purchase of a replacement truck, before settling into it's current home.

I would like to see your cargo setup but for whatever reason your dropbox photos are not displaying for me.:crybaby:
 
Thanks for the heads up, they were working on the computer but now they aren't on my phone, should be better now.
