Ah that makes more sense now - both my girlfriend and I are 5'9" and I think we would still both bump our heads at both heights. The inside height I measured to be about 38" from floor to ceiling, and with 9-10" of platform, I definitely couldn't sit upright.

As long as I can roll over and crawl out then I will be fine

Exactly ... at my height, I'd probably bump my head regardless, so it becomes a matter of trying to maintain "reasonable" storage space balanced with maximizing head space.

Which hinges are you referring to? The piano hinges? (Long, narrow ones) Or do you mean the rails for the drawers to slide on?

In pic, piano hinge in top, slide rails are on the drawers.

Several options already stated, but there is what I had in my wishlist on Amazon.

That brand you can find their product in different lengths and extreme weight. That turned out to be way overkill for what I needed. I just ended up with Home Depot and they still claimed to be rated up to 100 lbs. More then enough for me. In the Door Knob \ Cabinet Isle. I think the longest they had (at my store) was 22 or 24". Due to my air compressor, that was fine for me.

Not at all. I think it's about the same price if you get that or go to Home Depot. Quality, I don't know about though. Yours has great reviews, where Home Depot I'm willing to bet came from China.

I lucked out. My longer set I had laying around from an older project I took apart, and my 12 inch ones I got for $.54 because I returned some things to HD that I didn't need.

Either way, if you get those or the ones from HD, I'm sure you're going to be satisfied with them.

Gotch you. That's what I didn't know. If you guys ordered special draw hinges or just went to homedepot and got some there.
 
One thing that helped make my decision to get soft close slides was the fact that they take a little effort to open. When you go to open, it is smooth but take a small bit of pull to get started. Idea being that if you are parked on a upslope, the drawers won't automatically open unintentionally. Just another consideration.

Yes I want something where if your on a small hill the draw won't close back on you.

I sanded them down real smooth and hit them with a bar of soap. This is an old-school (and very cheap) approach. It's easy to do if you own a table saw, have a steady hand, and don't have a fear of cutting your hand off.
 
I can't wait to build one. It will organize my truck so much !!

Where do you guys find the carpet material in such big size ? Like for the top plywood area ?
