Rear cargo light

I bought an LED festoon bulb to replace my stock bulb in the rear cargo area, however when I tried to remove the old bulb, it sprung up and above/into the ceiling. The bulb is between the metal roof and the area where the plastic mount is. I can't reach it with my fingers or a coat hanger

Can anyone tell me how to retrieve this bulb? The last thing I want is an annoying rattling bulb when I am going over waterbars or around corners...

Thanks in advance!

I did the same. Remove the cover and I stuck a pen up there wiggling around to try and find it. I eventually did after 10 min and going in all the holes. I removed the whole light casing. If you have the retractable magnet thing for dropped bolts and such it'd work best in my opinion. I didn't have one at the time.

Thanks I will try this! I need to take off the switch casing anyway in the future, so I might as well do it now.

Dude, this literally happened to me yesterday, too! What the heck! I was livid when it happened. I tried using a chopstick, no results. Tried a magnetic screwdriver, nothing... eventually I just settled and went to AutoZone and bought another bulb... $17 later when it should have only been $8... best of luck, and please let me know what you end up doing!

I'm living the same nightmare. I had to drive right after I changed the bulb and could not spend 30 minutes looking for it.... It is now moving all around, and I can't reach it.

Let us know how you guys managed to retrieve it.

For me, I've driven around now for a day and haven't heard it move around or anything. I can't see it, nor feel it anywhere, so I honestly don't know what the status of mine is, unfortunately.

Easy peasey, gentlemen. Here's what you need. It will be a 2 minute job.

24" 2-in-1 Pickup Tool

This tool will only work if you know precisely where the part is.

For a couple days I didn't hear anything neither and now it's moving around non stop.

What are you guys talking about? I had no trouble with my led cargo light install. Not hating...just can't understand/visualize how so many people are having the same problem

Each side of the bulb holder flexes when you press on it, and acts like a spring. So I pressed one end of the holder, accidently let go of the bulb, and the "spring" released, rocketing my bulb up and into the hole

At least you got it in the hole ;)

I had the same thing happen to me. Thankfully I was able to get it out first try with a small piece of wire.

Good luck getting it.

But 8+8 is 16 not 17

Magnet will get stuck to the roof.

Go get a can of foam-a-fill and glue that sucker in there permanently. The good news is the foam will act as additional insulation from the sun beating on your roof.

This is fake advice, but it still might work. Good luck :playball:

LOL I just did the exact same thing the other day (and I'm glad I'm not the only one - I was super pissed).. I ended up unscrewing the entire unit out and popping another bulb in. I'll try to retrieve it later but for now its lost in the abyss..
