Rear coils on Limited vs other trims?

I tried to install a set of air bags in the rear coils of my Limited (to help with towing) and I couldn't get them to fit (coil diameter was too narrow).

Looking at part numbers it appears the Limited has a different rear coil part #(48231-35450) than other trims (SR5 and Trail use part # 48231-35340).

Does anyone know what the difference might be? Is it possible the Limited has a smaller diameter spring? Can I swap them out for the SR5/Trail springs or is that going to mess up the X-REAS shocks?

I haven't been able to find any detailed information about what the difference between those parts might be.

The Xreas is considered a part of the "sport suspension" package so I'd guess the rear springs are stiffer which would make the inner diameter smaller but probably leaves the outer diameter the same. Toyota likes part reuse so it's real likely the 2 parts are interchangeable. The fact that the spring seat has the same PN is a good sign.

Numerous people including me have replaced the LE rear springs (twice for me!), they all are interchangeable from a fit perspective. There is no different part number when lifting a LE in any kit I’ve seen at least.

That part is the "without Limited" part. This is the Limited one: OEM Toyota 4Runner 2016 Spring 4823135450 W/SPORT SUSPENSION, 4WD<br />Location: Left

(Unless I am missing something?? Which is certainly possible)

I may be wrong about this but as I responded above there seem to be different parts for the different springs. I used my local Toyota dealer's website (https://parts.toyotaofnashua.com) but other sites have similar information.

The spring SEATS are the same, so if you are putting in a lift kit with new springs I think any kit would fit all the trims.

Do you recall which Airlift kit you used? I got the 60809 one which I thought was right, but the OD of the air bags is 5.5" and the ID of the coil springs is 5". Unless I am just a complete idiot I don't see how it's going to fit.

I’m still shocked there would be a different spring in there.

I fully admit that maybe I'm being a doofus. But it also doesn't seem that weird to me that the Limited would have a different spring as part of the "Sport Enhancement Suspension" (whatever that means). The shock is obviously different.

I think I'm going to give it another try this weekend.

Xreas cross linked shocks, lines connecting along the frame rails, makes for a great highway ride! Drove mine for about 20k miles before I pulled them out.

I’d Read antman’s install and go from there.

Jack up the side you are installing the bag on to extend the spring. Remove the cover from the air valve nipple on the bag. Kneel on the airbag (they are super tough and you won't hurt anything) until all the air is out and it's flat like a pancake- put the cover back on the nipple. Now you have a nice flat bag to wedge in there- remove the cover once it's in place and the bag will return to it's shape inside the spring.

I put airbags in my '16 LE coils. I ended up putting in Firestone Ride-Rite (4135 Coil-Rite). I needed to drop the whole side including shock and removed the coils as I had to chop off the bump stop.

But your bottle jack on top of the axle with a piece of wood on top and raise it up under the bump stop... this will give u plenty of room to remove / install the springs or whatever else you're doing without having to disconnect anything in the rear.

I just installed a leveling kit the past weekend. All we unbolted was the sway bar (at the frame near the strut) and the bottom nut of the Strut. Lowered the jack and had a buddy stand on the end of the axle.

Yea did that too once... and it took way longer to get everything put back together... my method requires nothing but the bottle jack!
