rear defrost has me stumpped

i know this has been posted to death, but i cant seem to find a clear and detailed explanation on how to address the issue. I have checked the fuse...good, checked the switch...good (it lightsup), tried to check connections in the tail gate...i think its all good, but hard to tell if im checking the right stuff. Anyone have a good detailed write up?

Your switch lighting up shows you have power going TO it, but it doesn't mean it's sending it on--make sure you use a voltmeter (or at least a lighted circuit-checker) on the output side, too. Pull off the interior panel on the tailgate and check the connection coming off the window--if you're getting power there, you know the grid is probably screwed. Check carefully for breaks in the grid pattern. Best of luck.

Sorry to jump in on your thread but I'm having the same problem. Mine does not work at all. All fuses, the switch, and relays inside are good.The grid itself looks like it is all in one piece with no breaks. I pulled the rear panel off of the tailgate but there are a ton of wires and connectors in there. I didn't want to remove the plastic weather seal and dig around possibly messing something else up while looking for the defroster wires. Does anyone have a pic or can tell exactly where the wires are for the defroster and/or what other wires to check?

get a voltmeter and see if the rear window is getting power with the switch on.
test the connections on both sides and also make sure the gate is grounding right
