So once again the runner is broke... the rear different went and I'm debating on putting a stock replacement or if I can switch to one ton.. what would be the pros and cons and does anyone know a price range.... I was quoted for a used 125 plus core charge from a wrecking yard for a stock is that reasonable?

How on earth did you destroy your rear diff?

$125.00 doesn't sound too bad. Maybe get a Detroit Locker installed before you put it back on the Runner?

It depends on your gear ratio. Was $125 for the whole axle or just the 3rd member? Either way, its not bad.

4:10s are cheap and can be had all the time on Craiglist. 4:30, 4:56 and 4.88s are out there but a little harder to find.

This site will let you know what your truck came with from the factory, Gearratiosanddiffs

You MUST run the same gear ratio in the front and the rear.

Swapping in a 1 ton doesn't seem feasible for you, problems I see of the top of my head are new new link brackets/coil buckets, different lug pattern and it will be much wider than your front axle unless you narrow it. Expect to pay about $1500 to $2000 to get a 1 ton under there.

And I want pics of the carnage! I like seeing what goes wrong. Haha

Could it have been a wheel bearing?
