I used all synthetic 75-w90, front & rear diffs, and transfer case.
I put Redline 75w90 in the front and rear differentials. As people have mentioned you should pull the fill plug first before draining the diff, otherwise you'll have a real problem with re-filling it. On my rear diff I could not get the drain plug out, so I ended up having to pump the fluid out before I could refill.
To fill the diff you add fluid through the fill plug until it starts dripping back out.
The drain plug has a magnet on it, make sure to clean off any metal dust while you have it out of the differential.

So is my NAPA sponsored by a dealer? That doesn't make sense, either way I guess it doesn't matter bc I can get all types of Amsoil from a NAPA 10 minutes down the road.

Either that or the owner of the NAPA store is a dealer. If they're a dealer look into signing up as a preferred customer under them, that way you can get better pricing.

I was at the dealer today to pick up some parts. I plan on draining/refilling my front and rear diffs., along with my T-Case. I asked about what type of fluid to use, and the parts guy entered my VIN and printed out a spec sheet for all my fluids.

I use 80w-90 or 75w-90, in the cheapest flavor the stores sell. GL5. Run it in the trans transfer and diffs.
THe only thing that is picky in the manual transmissions. ANd then I would only run the expensive oil if you find it shifting hard.

Kman, if you havent already changed the dif oil, I would recommend spraying the bolts with penetrating oil a few days ahead of time. And then spray them again the day before as well. I do that a lot and it really does works with rusted bolts.

Nope. 90 is VERY heavy, thick stuff. Haynes says 90, Pep Boys advises 80W90, and Summit Racing says 75W90. You want the 75W90. I personally use Royal Purple 01300 Max Gear Synthetic. It works equally well with open or LSDs without additional additive.
One caution - if you have any small leaks, or anything that's even thinking of leaking, using RP or any synthetic can exacerbate the problem. The molecules are tiny and will find a way through the smallest cracks (which is why it works so well as a lubricant).
One consideration, as I just did it myself: the front diff drain valve is an allen key type bolt (plug), and if overtorqued ever, is impossible to remove w/out stripping. I would Kroil the hell out of that one for a month in advance :uzi: then night before, Kroil and immediately cover w/ axle grease, allow to soak overnight, and STILL have a bolt extractor ready! (This method worked great for a stubborn fuel filter on my '01 SR5)

Allen key??? This is supposed to be a 12mm. Maybe the previous owner changed it?
Someone please confirm this is a 12mm bolt/plug. Thanks

He's right, front diff takes an Allen key or socket bit. Some years it is 12MM and some years it is 10mm. If you buy a new one, I believe they are only 12mm no matter what. My '99 is 12mm Allen fill and drain.

Mine drain plug takes an allen key. I could not get the drain loose but could get the fill plug off. I stuck my finger in there and the fluid looks brand new still so I didn't mess with it. I could pump it out and refill but I figured it was pointless and had a million other things to do at the time.
It may have been changed before my brother bought it and he only used 4wd like 3 times.
Best up the housing around the bolt. Becareful don't strep thr bolt.
