Hello,
For a while now, I have been having an intermittent squealing noise from my rear driverside wheel. I have verified that it is in fact this location where the noise comes from.
The noise sounds very much like metal contacting metal. The noise only occurs once I have been braking for a little while and the brakes have had time to heat up. The noise also is only present when the outside air temp is about 75F or higher. It is totally absent when temps are lower. The sound will occur at all speeds and comes and goes intermittently. The only way to stop the noise is to apply the brake. It will come back ever now and then when not braking. Therefore, I am assuming it is brake related. There is no change in braking performance other than the annoying and embarrassing squeal.
Anyways, after searching through this forum, I found a couple of threads where parking brake components caused similar sounds and I have since replaced all of those components. I have also replaced all the pads and rotors, at all four wheel locations, with OEM parts. This includes new pins and other small retainer pieces and everything was greased properly. I also installed new OEM shims all the way around. The dust shield is not contacting anything either.
The only thing I have not done is bleed the brakes or replace the brake caliper. But based on the fact I hear or see nothing for 9 months of the year, these do not seem to be a problem.
Has anyone had a similar situation and if so, what did you do to remedy? I guess it is possible the higher air temps could cause some sort of expansion of some component, but I am no longer sure what that part would be.
Any input or previous experience is greatly appreciated.
