Rear Driveshaft Snapped... AGAIN.

Some of you may remember this thread:

Well It happened again. After the previous incident, I got another driveshaft and had it rebuilt, and balanced... The same thing happened, 6 months later! =( This leads me to believe something else is wrong.

I only have a 4" lift, so I don't think that would cause issues... Anyone have any idea of other items that may cause problems?

Pinion angle probably pointed down causing the joints to fail prematurely.
After new driveshaft did it have some vibration?
 
A bad driveshaft angle shouldn't cause it to snap, it would cause vibrations.
Maybe find a better driveshaft shop for the next one. I had mine built by High Angle Drivline.
 
Even factory driveshafts shouldn't break while driving. There has to be an outside influence. One, I'd say a fluke, 2 there is an issue.

Were the driveshafts both factory stock, non-extended?
Does the vehicle have a flat-belly?
 
I was killing u joints and causing leaking pinion seals due to bent driveshaft. Change shafts and no more leaks or bad brand new u joints. Vibrations wear out bearings especially u joints.
The vibrations weren't horrible like bad balance job on tires.

For instance I did a full flat belly and when on hi way and pushed the clutch in you could hear the gears in the cases sounding like they were a bout to come out.
I removed the lift blocks in the rear and lost a lot of the noise from the cases.
By removing lift blocks rotates pinion up. Better angle of the driveshaft.

Both pics from the first failure looks like the u joints failed or the yoke not that the shaft sheared or broke.

I would start here:

Driveline 101

Make sure all your joint angles are equal and within reason. Also, make sure the joints on the shaft are in phase. You may have to rotate the slip joint to get this right.

If you cannot lose the vibrations, you may need to get a double cardan joint in the front of the shaft and rotate the rear end "up" to get close to 0 degrees on the rear joint. That was the cure for mine after lifting it only 2". U-joints couldn't handle the angles.

I agree that the OP should make sure his pinion angles are correct, but that should never cause the the shaft itself to break. I don't think we have the full story here.

Offroad4r, do you have any pics? Where did it break? Did the shaft itself snap, or did a ujoint let go? I could see bad enough vibes left unchecked long enough leading to catastrophic ujoint failure. The first time this happened, did the driveshaft shop repair your existing shaft or did they build you a new one?

ETA - ok, so I just went through your other thread, you had a ujoint let go for sure. If that's what happened again, then I'd say you either bought trashy ujoints (Autozone...), or your pinion angles are crap. Maybe both.

Not sure what you're driving but I have a good , used drive shaft from my 87 part-out---went with the 22re, 5 speed
