Hello I have a 98 and when I drive the rear end humms.It doesnt matter what speed I am going. Does anyone know what may cause this? Let me know. Thanks

could be low rear diff oil. This may be caused by leaking rear axle seals. Can you check the oil level in your rear diff? The diff plug is at the top rear center of the rear axle. I think it's 24mm?

It humms? Maybe it doesn't know the words? More info needed. Is it a sound that only happens while moving? Does it change if you speed up or slow down? Any vibration along with it? Are you in 2WD, 4WD? Does your vehicle have rear diff?
Does it sound like metal on metal contacting, like a grinding sound? Had a rear wheel bearing on my Cherokee go out that had similar sounds. If its a humm then maybe something with the tires. Do a visual check of tires and look at the drums to see if anything is leaking. Jack up the rear and spin the tires and listen for any unusual sounds. Check if you have any play in your rear driveline u-joints.

I just rebuilt my rear diff because I had a gear whine... could be pinion bearing, wheel bearing, or perhaps driveshaft. Try lubricating your driveshaft as well as checking all the above.

+1 on the pinion bearing, that was the source of my rear end drone ('98) when speed and rpm's seemed not to effect it.
