Rear hatch interior release

I am curious if anyone has come up with a solution for an internal/interior release for the rear hatch. I know on the 200-series Land Cruiser/LX 570 it can be done due to the electronic release on the exterior and there are vendors that sell such kits. Can this be done on the 5th Gen 4Runner as well? I sleep inside of the 4Runner and I would like the option to open the rear lift gate from inside of the vehicle in order to exit instead of being forced to use the rear side doors.

My key fob works just fine from inside to release the hatch........ bonus is is wireless and requires No mods!:redbrick:

There is a dude on here who sells a 50$ kit. UtahRnr did a nice diy write-up.

There is also a way to attach a string to the latch through the little emergency panel. Forgot who did that write up but you can google t4r results and find it.

Thanks! I already have the exit switch coming but curious about the rear window mod now too. Does it work with the ignition off?

I don't see why it wouldn't if the wiring is in parallel with the factory switch and the doors are unlocked.

Is this a function on limited models or some type of button pressing code? I don’t have a rear door button on my fob. Do tell.

Here you go, sorry guys, a little confusion, I guess it is a slight mod, unlock with the fob and pull your release cord/string/strap etc.

$8 dollars and 30 minutes later and we are in business! Thanks to all those who helped with the links and suggestions.

Any details on exactly what you ended up doing?

Yessir, I followed UtahRnr's post. He lists the parts needed and has a very good detailed writeup in his post mid-way down the page. Fortunately I already had the connections and splices/crimps needed along with the wiring. The switch came the next day via Amazon for $7.99 + tax. I used some male/female connectors mid-line to ease in removing the panel in the future. I didn't take any pics as it is pretty well detailed in that thread.
