rear hatch stuck is stuck tried everything..

my rear hatch on my 99 4 runner is stuck shut, i have gutted the insides even pried the latch on the inside. it looks like the striker plate on the bottom is pushed up into the hatchand its rusted to hell . not sure how to get it open without completely destroying it

You need to reach down and pull on the release latch. Follow the cable from the handle down to the latch. There you will see where the pin pulls the latch open. Give that a pull while inside and push the hatch and you should get here to open. I had the same issue I just had to bang on the hatch firmly(not denting it to the left of the license plate housing and it would open. You could also try using the key to unlock the trunk.

Get a sasquatch to sit in the back and then stand out behind the truck and make fun of his mom. He'll open that hatch up right quick.

Probably not a good idea .

Maybe get someone to apply pressure from outside against latch area while you pull up on the cable?

Spray sgood amount of WD-40 and let it soak over night. And like "JMartins" says pull the tab on the locking latch. See the image.
