Rear hatch window

I have a 1999 4Runner I took out my factory radio lastnight to install a new one. I haven't put the new one in yet but I buttoned everything up till I can put the new radio in this weekend. Anyway now my front switch for my back hatch window doesn't work. I took off the panel around the radio and checked all connections and everything is good. I checked all fuses and they are good too. The window goes up and down with the key but not the front switch. What eles should I check? This worked before I took the radio out. Should I wait till I install the new radio or by a new switch?? Thanks

Did you check the window lock button in your drivers door?

I checked the window lock and it was off.

If everything is still plugged in, fuses are good and you didn't damage any wires I would probably hook the radio back up and see if that makes a difference. Did you check the fuse panel under the dash and under the hood?

I did check the fuses under the dash but not under the hood. I don't know if there is some kinda relay for that back window that maybe bad. I'm putting in the radio tonight hopfully I can fix it. If anybody has any suggestions as to what eles I should check please let me know. Thanks

Pull the bezel off and make sure you put the connectors back in the right spot. One time I put one connector in the fake connection in the bezel (look at the back and you will know what I am talking about) and my clock didn't work. I knew right away what I did. :bash:

I basically mess that up EVERY single time I pull that bezel off

Yes there's a unused plug back there. if you don't plug into the right plug, it disables the clock and rear window. Not sure why it's there, but it happened to me a few weeks back. it looks the same and accepts the plug for the window/clock but is a dead outlet

I did the same thing, also you could check the rear window "ECU" it is behind the trim on the rear hatch.

How do you make it go up? Use the key in the tailgate? I didn't know that was possible...then again, my key has only been used in the ignition.

I did check to make sure everything was in the right plug and they are. The hazards work, clock works, and the defrost is color coded whit plug/white connector and the other is orange on orange...fool proof. I got the radio in and the window still doesn't work. The funny thing is the window never use to go down or up with the key. I always had to us the inside switch. Doesn't make sense to me.

Strange....now the window works. Something must have been loose. Anyways it's fixed and works for now. BTW I love my new radio!! Thanks for everyones help and suggestions.

How do you make it go up? Use the key in the tailgate? I didn't know that was possible...

Put the key in the lock on the tailgate. Turn and hold in one direction and the window goes down, turn and hold in the other direction and it goes back up. Short, quick turns do the locking and unlocking.

theres a fake one? which one is it? i thought i was missing a plug, my clock doesnt work and i bet irs cause of this!

It is the black one in the middle, because the clock is prewired, vehicles without the clock would use the fake plug to keep it from rattling.
