Rear htr line with pics

Hey guys got my 99 sport a few weeks ago and am going to do some reg maintenance. So I was underneath and saw these lines. No leaks but I can smell the slightest amount of coolant. I called my yota dlr and price for new lines are $88 bucks with my discount. Ive had 3 3rd gens before and never really remember using the rear heat. I"m either going to cap them or possible run rubber hoses, the pipes are fine halfway up. I might cut them as the go down along the firewall and install the hoses from there.

Yeah, quite a few of us have had to replace those. Don't pay for the stock hard lines, they'll just rust through again. A good number of us have replaced them with flex line, and a goo number has bypassed with a short piece of flex line as well. Either works just fine. If I had to do it again, I'd probably bypass.

Just don't pay $88 to the man.

These run up under the passenger door correct? Mine are rusting pretty bad. Is the flex line replacement a fairly easy job? I'd like to keep the rear heat for the kids but could bypass it if it's a PITA to repair. Any tutorial on doing either the flex lines or bypassing that anyone knows of?

It's pretty easy to replace them with flex line. Not really any tutorial, it's prety easy. I bought some fitting to match the fittings to the rear heater, but you could just patch it in on both ends. It is easy enough to not require a tutorial. I think someone might have made one a while back, but it really is way easy to do on your own.

I am perfectly happy with the flex line, had it installed about 10 months now. The only reason I might do it different now is that it took alot longer to replace the lines rather than the 10 minute job to just bypass. Since I don't really use the rear heater ever, I would trade for my time back. That's all it is. If you will use it at all, then totally worth it to just replace the lines with flex.
