Rear liftgate cover removal?

Can anyone help me by telling me how to get it off? I plan on painting it satin black along with the door handles. Do I take the cover on the back off or the two screws under it? any help is appreciated!

u have to take the interior panel off, & if i remember right, theres a shield to remove, then about 6 nuts. its kind of a pita.

Looks like you're on the right track. Took me a total of a few hours to get it off and put it back on. I painted it in bet/w.

I believe you do have to remove the two screws under the panel...Just try to figure out which screws/nuts are in the same place as the chrome trim panel. It's been awhile but it wasn't too difficult. Little trial and error...

Can you fit wires through the area I've circled below? I'm trying to install a rear view camera that will sit right beneath the rear liftgate cover that the OP has circled in his post.

It's off! Thanks for the help everyone! The next step is prepping and painting. Can anyone check my checklist or offer suggestions.

1. Wash in dish soap while covering the connector for the door handle.
2. Mask off with tape. the tape is green if that helps. I'm masking off the back and the Toyota symbol.
3. Sand with 320 sand paper on the chrome.
4. Paint with primer, 1 or 2 coats
5. Paint with the satin black, 1 though 3 coats.
6. Let dry over night and put back on truck.

tylerahs- I don't think it'll work its very tight and holding the wires to the license plate lights and door handle. however I don't have that much experience in that field so I think its worth trying.

Update! Took the thing off again and this time painted it the factory paint and added a clear coat. Tell me what you think?

Kinda. I don't like the chrome so I tried different things. In the end I wanted it painted like the rest of the body. I plan on doing the rest before the next semester starts again.

Looks great! Where did you get the factory paint?

I got the paint from advance auto parts. It's dupicolor toyota paint and cost me 7 bucks and the clear coat also cost 7 bucks

Looks really good. Getting tired of the chrome over here too. How is the paint holding up for you? Any chips, scratches, etc?
