Looked around a bit and haven't found any write ups on resealing the rear main seal housing. Do I need to remove oil pan to properly do that? I have toyota fipg and ultra black available to use as sealant just not sure on the procedure. Any help from people who have done this would be appreciated. I'm replacing the clutch now and have toyota rms to install. While I'm in this deep figured I would pull the housing to install seal and new fipg. 220k miles with no signs of leaking ( at this time ) and hope to keep it that way. Thanks in advance , Matt

I just did this a few weeks ago when I replaced my clutch @215k. I followed the method shown above where you do NOT need to remove the rear oil seal retainer (flat plate) so I didn't need to reseal anything with FIPG. It was a little harder to push the seal in flat and straight this way (it ended up sitting pretty flat, but about 2mm deeper than the edge it should be flush with), but 1,000 miles later I still don't have any leaks.

5vz. I went ahead and pulled the seal retainer. It's all back together now. Appears you don't have to pull oil pan. Much easier to get the actual seal right if retainer is removed I think. I don't want to do this again anytime soon !! Flying solo on the garage floor on this project , doh.
