Rear Mount Turbo exhaust

Me and clownmeat have been getting a lot of intrest in our rear mount turbo setups. I just fabed up my exhaust pipe that is a direct bolt up to the stock 3.4 cat, o2 and exhaust hangers and we were thinking that maybe people would be interested in placing orders for a direct bolt on turbo exhaust. here are some pics

pretty cool, i've always been a fan of turbo's (though never owned one...) and have heard good things about a properly set up rear mounted turbo. would you mind publishing an all-informative pamphlet on the subject of RMT's in 3rd gens and send me one?? lol, really though i'd like to pick someones brain that's done it.

Gotta love ebay turbos. lol. for the 90 angle into the turbine. pretty much is just to keep it safe :laser: thats the highest point ant the exhaust protects it.:eyebrows:

nice, though I have to ask why the 90* bend into the turbine?

ebay turbo ftw. $120 for a T3/T4 53 trim hybrid.

Clean setup... I haven't looked into turbo setups on these motors... I assume it's a mild boost, but what are the additional mods needed beyond piping? Factory injectors? ECU mapping?

Thanks. i dont know if ill do a full write up, aybe i can talk clownmeat into helping me do one. so from someone who builds and sells stuff on here, about what price would you think i could ask for this bolt on piece? by the way from one fabricator to another your roof racks are sick man, seriously art! :eyebrows: i built one for my 92 runner so i know the effort and skill it takes. i just wish i had a bender cause i wanna do one for my 98.

Im gonna run 7 pounds. no other mods. run a different temp spark plug and run priemium fuel. 7psi is safe cause thats what the TRD supercharger runs and they dont do any ecu or engine mods, and we all know there is more than a handfull of TRD supercharged runners and taco's out there with well over 200k.

finding a price is tough, just a mix what other similar products (if any) or services go for, what you've got in it-time and materials, and setting a price that doesn't turn someone away before reading about your stuff.

I'd be curious to know if there is any efficiency to be had with a mild turbo setup?? once you get tired of playing with it and drive better, is there any increase in MPG?

Sounds like a sweet deal... I think turbo is the way to go... I'll definitely be following this

You can expect better mileage if you keep your foot steady... especially with a manual trans

clownmeat has had his turbo for about a year now i think and we are in the process of figuring out gas miledge difference between non turbo with lift and 285's and turbo lift and 285's. i do know it is an incresase with turbo. thanks for the info though. i was thinking around $150? but there really isnt much to compare to. STS makes a tacome rear mount kit but thats like $2200 for the intire kit. i like the idea of just sellind the pipe and people can do whatever they want with it. Name brand stuff ect.

I really like this idea. What are you going to do for the intake tubing back to the motor? Possibly a 'kit' made up of the major tubing pieces?

I honestly love the turbo sound and power, my question is what about swimming? How does the turbo deal with that? I'm really interested though, i love a good turbo sound.

EDIT: Also could you do a full hosing and piece kit? Then we would plug and play the O2 sensor and turbo, etc

We actually use a 1.5" ID piece of pvc to run it from the turbo to the fender well. then i will get 2.5" OD exhaust pipe bent to go through the fender well to the intake manifold. i know the pvc sounds cheesey and small but it gives us the volume we need and the pvc does not rattle and does not absorb heat like steel or aluminum

What would a good guestimate of cost be for a DIYer to piece together their own kit? If no fmu, upgraded injectors, or custom tuning is required then it should be a cheaper setup than a supercharger no? Again, my goal would be economy and towing help, i aint racing.

I've never built a remote mount setup, so I'm not sure about the oiling, but I have read that an external oil pump is necessary. I'd probably recommend it since that's the only cooling these get.

Since I have the same turbo, I think that makes a good mild setup for these. I will say the wastegate placement couldnt be any better... right in the flow of exhaust. optimal control ftw.

And to actually answer a question, I was about $500 into parts to upgrade on my car... that was the turbo pictured above, waste gate, recirculation (bov) valve, manifold, oil lines and fittings, intake tubing, couplers, clamps, vacuum lines, exhaust tubing, wideband and boost gauges, gaskets, fluids, electric fan... feel like I'm missing something. but most of it came from ebay.

it's a lot cheaper than a supercharger. partially why we went with the turbo. Me and clownmeat have less than $1000 a piece in each of our setups. but like I was saying if you get all name brand stuff it well be more pricy I mean a Garrett turbo alone is $800. and towing and fuel economy will be more efficient cause everytime your engine is under a load you are getting an extra 70 hp to ease that load and that 70 hp isn't pushing your engine harder like a supercharger does.

I actually hooked up my oil lines and scavenge pump today the feed comes from the block and goes into 1/4" steel line to a braided steel hose to the turbo the return is 1/2" tranny cooler hose to the scavenge pump to the LH valve cover breather towards the firewall then I put a breather filter on the oil cap. I'll put some pics up tomorrow. thanks for the complements.

huh. I guess being somewhat pressurized it doesn't matter to send the oil uphill. would have suggested the oil pan but if it works that way, then you don't have to worry about welding in bung to the oil pan.

btw if you wanted to, what I did was buy a cooling system threaded nipple from a parts place (threaded on one side, 5/8" nipple on the other) and weld it into the oil pan.

but yeah, no problem. enjoy these builds.

being a rear mount turbo it will always have to go up hill. but that's why you have to run a scavenge pump.

sorry I don't understand the question.
