Rear Mount Turbo Questions

Worse comes to worse I just blow the turbo, screw the engine, and cry myself to sleep. That's half the fun of doing everything yourself with no money though!

Yeap!! A lot of wrenching, crying, bloody knuckles and pissed off WIFE keeps my 4runner going and mods a coming!!
 
So, I would invest in a good TiAL wastegate, but I don't see the point if it would cost nearly as much as the rest of the build, does anyone know of a good "cheap" wastegate that I can run my desired 4-7 psi of boost with? I think a 44mm is my best bet, but I can only find a cheap 4 psi wastegate, or a 10 psi. I also do not know how well the cheap wastegates handle swapping springs. Any help is appreciated!

Wrench in my plans, cylinder 4 misfire tonight, so have to get that figured out first... sounds like a plan for tomorrow. I am two pages in and I haven't even started yet.

I should just boost it now, who needs 6 cylinders! I can just drill a hole in my catalytic converter and re-route the unburnt fuel into the turbo oil feed for maximum boost, should be pushing like 120psi

this is the kind of forward thinking we need on this forum :rockon:. Keep it up man, I've built a rear mount kit in my head 5 or 6 times but never gone through with it

I am going to dig into the engine when I get home today, hopefully the misfire is just a coil(only one cylinder misfiring so I doubt it), wires, plug, or an injector, they are all easy. I had leaky valve covers that I had tightened, so while I have it torn apart I may as well replace the gaskets. That should really cover all the basics reliability wise before I boost it. I might clean the MAF before I do it so that if something goes wrong I KNOW it is something in my system, no previous issues. I am shooting for Thanksgiving to start this, by the time I get parts it might be that long. Also, that is really the only time I have off. The only problem is I need it done by the Monday after, so I can drag it through the woods on the first day of deer season...

Also, I only need new coils, wires, and plugs, no injectors. Luckily it wasn't something more serious, should have it running again by tomorrow.
 
Alright, so the only big thing that would be holding me back at this point is getting all of the piping bent up. I do not have a pipe bender, or a welder at home for that matter. I do weld, I just don't have the money for a welder at the moment but I have access to one at school, but I still need to bend the pipe. From those of you that have done this, what all NEEDS to be bent. I would imagine that you could manage to do it with the bend going into the turbo(exhaust) coming off of the cat, then a basic pipe to dump the exhaust out of the turbo. Do any of the charge pipes or air intake pipes NEED to be steel? I would think that maybe the charge pipe coming out of the turbo may need a few feet of steel to absorb some of the heat, but can the rest be run with silicon or pvc? Also, for the bend into the turbo would you recommend just buying a 90 degree mandrel bend and welding it up, or use something else. Thanks.
Edit: Also, there are no dedicated exhaust shops around me, the closest thing to it is Midas, and they charge an arm and a leg...they charged me like 25 bucks for my small ISR pipe...it was like 6 inches long...

I know people that have researched and bought kits with close to as much piping and bends they need. I did this when I was 16 on my first FMIC I installed on my 1st Talon AWD Turbo. Cut and fabricate as needed.
