Rear OEM spoiler for my '99 T4R Base

How does it mount? Will it fit my '99 base?

The two support brackets are stuck on with some super-duper double sided tape, if I'm not mistaken. Then the actual spoiler is screwed to the brackets with 2 screws per side.

Alright then.. OP...

I'll help you out since we both have base model 4Runners. Mine didn't come with a spoiler, either.

The spoiler mounts to the top of the hatch with 2 brackets. The brackets are screwed in to the hatch, not miraculously stuck on with tape. You must (as I did) drill the corresponding holes to mount the brackets. I did use double sided tape as a sort of gasket, however.

The spoiler then screws into the brackets. There are no specific giveaways or markings to show you where to drill, just line up where you can best eye it, mark, drill, and mount.

I did that with my base model and I guarantee that anyone could not tell the difference to that of a factory mounted spoiler.

i did this also, clear silicone would be good around the openings of the brackets. i havn't done this to mine but i have not noticed any rusting..better go do it however...

Yeah, I used the double stick tape to prevent that. I took the spoiler off before to see how it held up and it hasn't the slightest spec of rust (although I do live in CA)

use the template and triple check your measurements

It helps greatly to have another 3rd gen Runner around (with spoiler brackets already attached) to verify your pilot holes for the inserts to the hatch.

not to disagree with you Cof B- but there is a template to use. It specifies exactly where to center up the template and how to mark the hatch. Double and then triple check your measurements.

All the work will be worth it if you drive dusty roads frequently, that spoiler truly does work to keep the dust off that back window.

Damn ! I've had this truck for 8 years and I never noticed the screws in the brackets! I better be more careful when dragging it thru the bush!

You're right man, best to have a template. I did look at a few but I did not make measurements... I eyed it at least
