Rear Passengers Speakers have no sound

Hey y'all.

My 06 Runner seems to be having speaker problems. I just found out this past weekend that my rear passenger speakers do not work. I have factory navigation with XM radio installed by the dealership. The front speakers seem to be working with no problems.

My speakers in the back do not work at all. I have tried to adjust the sound to the rear but only the sub puts out sound. When I move the sound to the rear I hear no sound whatsoever, just the sub kicking.

I have checked the radio 1 and 2 fuse but they are fine. As I am writing this I realize it could possibly be that the people that installed the XM radio messed up my rear speakers? Should i remove the headunit to check it out? Any suggestions? Thanks all!

Just the passenger, not the driver's side speakers? Assuming you have JBL since you have navi and you're saying "speakers"

If the XM was installed seperately that definitely could be an issue, but it sounds like it's an issue with the BLOSE amp

Sorry to clarify. The front speakers work, the driver side and front passenger side work. The XM radio was installed after the car was purchased.

The Factory amp has gone bad, you'll need to replace it or replace the headunit with a double din that has a built in amp and by-pass the factory amp by cutting the wires going in and splicing them with the wires going out

the way the factory system works is the head unit sends all the signals to the amp for each speaker. Then the amp boost the signal and pushes it out to the speakers.

This is somewhat of a typical problem. If you have any kind of warranty setup you make get it fixed under that; however, I doubt it. If you plan to just replace the factory amp, look around on here for members that have perhaps upgraded there system and have the factory amp ready to sell you much cheaper

yep it's attached to the factory sub box. Just remove the entire rear lower panel to get to it.

rooneyy, I actually have a JBL amp I'd sell you for cheaper than they're listed on Ebay. I bought a JBL sub enclosure on Ebay so I could add a sub to my non-JBL 4Runner. But it came with an amp that I have no use for. I keep meaning to put it on Ebay, I just haven't gotten around to it. I'll send you a PM with some pictures.

I know that says it's for a 4Runner and it may work but the part number on that amp shows for Tacoma's only if you search a Toyota parts website.

It looks like the bracket is a little different. It may be possible to remove that bracket and put on the bracket from your current amp but I'm not sure. Just a heads up.

The correct part number for the 4Runner amp should be 86280-0W150.

So I tried a new AMP and there was not different. I am still having the same issue. If I take the headunit out to check the speaker connections, is the something I need to check for specifically?

I don't know but i hope you find the problem. I keep getting complaints from the back seat about the speakers cutting in and out, i have the jbl setup. I may rip it all out but i would rather not, good luck!

Yeah I would like to know as well. I have a hunch that it was the people that installed the XM radio. I purchased the car after the previous owner had XM installed and he doesn't remember if the rear speakers worked prior to the install. I pulled out the headunit out but everything was plugged in correctly and nothing looked spliced into. Not sure where the problem would be coming from then?

was this a brand new amp replacement or a used amp replacement. Only reason I ask is if it were used and removed, it's likely it was removed for the same problem your experiencing.

If the signal is getting to the amp but not the speakers then the amp is the only culprit. the only other possible problem might be the connection between the amp and the actual speakers could be compromised in some fashion, or perhaps the head unit is not pushing the signals for those channels out at all.

I wish I could be of more assistance but these are the only causes of your situation I've dealt with or seen happen.

neither am I. I figured out which wires to splice to which using a meter that produced a low signal to identify the speaker the wire connected to when i bypassed my amp.

To the OP any audio installation facility could have the ability to trouble shoot the wiring for you they have the meters and experience to know how to find the ghosts in systems like these.

If the dealership installed the aftermarket XM then I would take it back to them, tell them that the rear speakers haven't worked since the install, and make them figure it out. Chances are, they didn't splice something right, or left something disconnected

I appreciate the feedback guys. I am going to do just that. It was a Toyota dealership and so I think I am going to take it back to them. Thank you for the input, I'll get that done this weekend and I will update you guys.
