Rear seat rattle

There is a god awful rattle that happens when the rear seat is latched. I can't Imagine why this would start doing this or why it is so intense.

The ride over bumps is rough but not in excess. (load range E 285's and TRD's)

Is there anyone else out there with this problem? Can the latch be tightened or something?

If this gets fixed Ill be all :reddance: so FIX ME UP YALL!

Check the obvious things like the bottle jack and tool kit under the seat. If that's not it, check to make sure the back is actually latched. If it is, try a dab of grease in the latches themselves. Shouldn't be real hard to figure out.

i wrapped the little catches in mine, in electrical tape. I feel like i learned that here somewhere.
It's not the most elegant of solutions, but funtcional nonetheless. It will certainly gum up the spot you sticks it on though and doesn't last forever.

The passenger side latch on my rear bench seat rattles too. I haven't done anything about it yet but I also had heard about someone using electrical tape to band aid the problem.

I recently discovered this too! A little piece of strong duct tape wrapped around the forward part of the latch ring did wonders! If it wears out, just replace it. Takes only a minute.

Agreed. I did the tape solution over a year ago and the rattle is gone. All it means when one rattle is eliminated though is that you can now more clearly hear another. Good luck.

haha yeah. I second this statement, too. I am forever chasing down rattles.
So...much...foam tape....and....bungees...still...have....RATTLES!!!

My 96 Base model rattled like crazy, my 99 Limited doesnt rattle at all.

I used to get a rattle from the seats but it was from the knobs you pull to fold the back seats forward, they would wiggle loose and rattle until i tightened them back down. Loctite.

In all honesty, I would rather drive a Japanese car or truck with hundreds of rattles, than a shiny new Domestic. True Story.

I'm going to quote myslef to say I have very minor rattles that are barely audible over road noise. I don't rattle like a have 5 15" subs in the back, just little urksome rattles. Nothing major.

So that's where the rattle is coming from! For the life of me, I couldn't figure it out and it's really been getting on my nerves lately. I'm checking this out while I'm at work tomorrow. :trophy:

My '98 has been rattling for a few years, and my new commute was driving me nuts!

Last week I was convinced it was coming from the rear door... so hard to pinpoint for some reason.

Yesterday for some reason I decided to fold the rear seats down... and the rattle disappeared!!! :biggrin2:

Both of mine had the rear seat rattle when the seats were up. I only noticed it when it was cold. I did the electrical tape wrap and it fixed it.

Mine does this, it's definitely the seat latches. One of these days it'll piss me off enough to do something about it.

I could not for the life of me figure out what that rattle was until I put one side of the seat down and it dawned on me that now the rattle was only coming from one side.

Electrical or duct tape is a good idea. I was going to try some split vinyl or reinforced rubber tube on my catches.
