Rear shock hoop

After installing the front LT it was apparent the rear Tokico's couldn't keep up. So I started the fabrication of a rear shock hoop. I still wanted to stuff the 35's, so it got a little tight. I kept the shock low, so the tire goes over the mount at full bump when articulated. This forced me to drop the lower mount 2 inches lower than the factory mount. This isn't preferred, but necessary to clear the tires. I used a Total chaos rear shock mount for the lower mount. The upper hoop is all bolted on. I kicked the lower shock mounts, slightly toward the tire to keep them out of harms way (hopefully). It's a 10" travel FOX 2.5 with the spacer removed (making it 11" of travel). I also trimmed the shock bodies down .750. I don't recommend cutting the body more than .500. In the pictures I have the shock disassembled to make it easier to handle.

theese trucks dont have much room for other set ups, how much shaft is exposed when the truck is on the ground???

im dealing with this too i was thinking on going to an inboard top mount for the angle was too much and i wanted a 10", now im considering just a stem top 8" on the stock position and see how it does.

have you driving it yet??? any diference in handling except for the better shock obcourse.

Haven't had a chance to drive it yet. I have to put the shocks back together. If you want to use the stock location, KING makes a bolt in 2.5 remote res shock.

I did A LOT of measuring, articulating, and measuring again. Keeping the shock low and forward will allow you to run a 10" shock and still stuff the tire in the fenderwell. I'm getting about 12.5" of vertical wheel travel and ~18" of articulation. Without penetrating the body and running a coilover or some sort of cantilever, I don't think you can get much more.

I'm not sure if it was worth it, but we'll see after I get the rear shocks dialed in.

Looks real good. I remember how much fun that was when I helped my buddy build mine. It was one long day.
I like the limit strap location.

im going the cheap route...your set up looks good and from what i can see full drop will get your shock really close the 90 degrees. wheel spacers help you too.

I love the work you do, prospectator. I wish I lived in the desert so I could justify a build like this. Unfortunately, the trails around here require all this heavy ass armor to keep you from messing anything up. I'd rather go fast, and stay light.

Good catch on the limit strap mount.

Dang! "One long day", I feel like it's been 10 long days!! Making it removable definitely made it more work.

Thanks A.Wilson013. Funny you say that. I was just talking to a buddy the other day and mentioned we should slow down and straight axle this thing.

Ya I figured if I was ever to take mine off I'd just cut it off. But I don't have flame plates like you so that's a lot of time too.

Very clean though. You gonna add resis to them shocks. I have the big resis on my 2.0s and I heat the hell out of em in ocatillo and superstition.

Yeah, the shocks are torn apart in the pictures to make it easier to cycle the suspension. These shocks have huge 2.5X14" reservoirs. Honestly, I'm not sure where to mount em!

Mine are just mounted to the top of the shock hoop and I haven't had any issues.

That's what I was hoping for. But the reservoirs hang off the end a few inches if I try mounting them to the hoop. I'm going to buy some new hose and tuck the shocks on the inside of the frame rail. There's plenty of room after removing the factory spare tire cross member.:thumb:

Nope, that was a bad call on my part. :(

Are those the TC secondary shock mounts up front? What size secondary shock are you running? Truck looks great man! I just finished my front long travel up and a friend is selling me some TC secondary shock mounts for a great price.
