Rear shock question

As many of you know, I've got the OEM rear air suspension on my 4runner. I have adjusted the system so that I'm at about 1.5" lift in the rear. I've always been told to stick with an OEM length rear shock to prevent issues. I'm thinking that since I've adjusted the bags, I may not have enough down travel left thus causing poor ride quality. I've tried four different brands of shocks and very little difference between them. Since the bags have been adjusted, would it be safe to run a shock like the 5100s that is longer than stock? I'm thinking it will be fine but would like some other opinions.

Nope. I'm really thinking it'll be fine, but would like some other opinions. For on road, I really don't think it'll be an issue, off road is where it might become a problem.

If the Bilstein 5100's are adjustable, you'd think those would be fine as long as you choose the appropriate setting, no?

I'm curious about upgrading to the 5100's provided they will work with my RAS

The fronts work fine, although you'll have to pull xreas. The rest are longer than stock and are not adjustable, which is where an issue could arise.

The 5100s will work with a (0-2") lift like yours, as the 5100s are 2" longer. How did you adjust the airbags? If your rear stiff, your bags may be filled when they shouldn't be. I'm not sure how the factory bags work, but they must have sensors to level the vehicle. Since you lifted the rear and if there are sensors, find out what the factory distance is from sensor to its reference point is so you can maybe try moving those sensors.

I believe there are few vehicles here that have the OEM bags and are lifted, but I have seen any issues.

If you have the XREAS suspension check for leaks.

Xreas was ditched due to the ride, was hoping new shocks would fix it, they didn't. I've adjusted the sensors to stock height, lower than stock, and higher than stock, no real change in ride qualify. Right now I have the sensors set so that the rest sits about 1.5" higher than stock, but as I said, ride quality was ask issue before touching it. I've done more tinkering with the height levels since this post was made.

The shock question is in regard to the bags. I know the shocks will work, question is if they will cause issues with the bags. Shocks limit your down travel longer than stock shocks allow the able to droop low enough to damage the bags.

Hmm, I guess either a Toyota Tech or someone will the balls to install 5100's on a 4Runner with RAS is the only way to find out if it will work or not.

IF your bags are adjusted to provide lift, I don't think it'll be an issue, especially on road. I'm going to try, just gotta get money for shocks. I'm going to do something different, but just bought my wife a car and don't have the extra money for what I want. If I blow the bags, oh well, been wanting to ditch them anyway.
