Here's my writeup for installing some Polk dB521 5-1/4" coaxial speakers using two adapter brackets per side from PVC Speaker Adapters - CNC Machined - In Stock or Custom Made

Nice write up, always good to have a visual of what a process looks like. I have searched and not found a good write up because everyone thinks its so simple.

Even if it is simple I enjoy reading about a process im about to do, helps me go through with the order.

Yes, they will but when won't be able to roll your window down all the way. If you use shallow mount 6.5s you will not have this issue.

Well that stinks, everything I read said only a 5-1/4" would fit so that's what I went with. Would've rather had the 6-1/2" had I known, but I never saw anything showing them installed. Oh well they still sound good and I'm not taking it back apart (except the rear pass door so I can plug in the window switch :ybrick:

Reviving an older thread. How shallow does the rear door speaker need to be to clear the window? Most manufacturers will list the depth of the speaker so just wanted to know, as my stock ones don't even work anymore.

Why not just order from crutchfield? They usually send the conversion kits.

Crutchfield doesn't specify how much clearance between the speaker and the window though. Anything other than a stock size speaker "doesn't fit" according to their site. I put 6x9's in my pickup in place of the 4" that were there but I could go as deep as I wanted since there was tons of space. Not so much in a door panel though.

Just wanted to know if anyone had any experience OR if they knew which kind of speaker they put in, then I could look up the measurements and see if the ones I'm thinking of putting in would also fit.

Bijan - which brand/model fit? Personally I think 6.5 can sound So much better than 5.25s - what an inch and a quarter will do! Thanks in advance. :cowboy:

Hey guys the rear door mount that is on our doors is just a flat peice of plastic wit a mount made on it, you can take it off and trace it on a piece of mdm board and then cut a ring out of mdm board for the 6.5 and place it any where on there so the door panel goes back together.

So that way you can fit the 6.5 in there. remember you can get mdm board in a lot of different thickness so 1/4" for plate and 3/4" for ring

That works for me for the mounting, but doesn't help with depth though. If you go too thick on the mdm board, won't your speaker stick out too far and the door cover won't fit back on?
