Rear Speakers not working

Well it's the rear speakers r blown n tailgate I can push n on both speakers an they will play and let off an no sound. Didn't check the rear n door on driver side nor rear passenger will check them later but atleast I no it's the speakers an not factory head unit

speakers OEM are low quality . every vehicle I owned I replaced them all. I have infinity and pioneer speakers in my vehicles now. pioneer speakers are 16 yrs old . infinity are about 12 yrs old.

since your gonna need new speakers don't go by what I used because the quality of this stuff varies .. check out reviews on speakers .

similar issue

having a similar issue in my 2010 SR5 non-jbl and no nav. I installed a pioneer headunit last year....no issues everything worked fine for awhile. Recently, I realized all 4 rear speakers aren't working (after a backseat passenger kept telling me to turn up the volume), front speakers work fine. tried flipping party mode on/off...nothing.

I can hear slight static from all 4 at the same time if I crank it and put my ear close to all the rear speakers with and without party mode activated.

I voltage tested the rear wires (green and purple) behind the head unit and can see that the left and right rears wires each have about 30 volts coming from the head unit.

Does this sound like a faulty switch or relays to you guys since all 4 are outputting static with or without the switch activated? Suggestions on where to go for replacements if so.

Absolutely correct!

No... If the PM switch were faulty you'd still have either both Tailgate and second row doors or Tailgate ONLY! If there's a chance that either of the rear speakers (Rear doors or Tailgate speakers) had their polarity switched you'd have this: [POS]---0--0---[POS] or this: [NEG]---0--0---[NEG], and very possibly hear a slight static coming from both speakers. And...you could still have 30V at the HU's speaker outs!

I would check the speaker system's wire polarity at the HU rear panel. If everything checks out there, then I'd start pulling the trim panels off at the rear doors and tailgate to see if the polarity was somehow switched up there! After you check things out, please be sure to let us know what you find so we can document this as 'Problem solved or unresolved'!

follow up and resolution

Before popping all the door panels off. I decided to quickly rewire the harness and see if the issue would follow to the other speakers (thus meaning the headunit is the issue).

So I matched the right front to right rear (gray to purple, purple to gray) left to left (white to green, green to white). Plugged her back in. Hooked back up my battery.

Sure enough. Back speakers are playing now. Party Mode is fully functional. Front speakers are putting out static.

I assumed that meant the rear amp channels are toast. However, I called cructhfield support and the guy immediately pointed me towards a setting buried in the initial setup. It was setting the rear channels to subwoofer mode. I turned that off and everything is working now.

Resolution?

I am having the same issue with my 2010 4-runner. I bought it brand new and still have the stock non-JBL headunit. A couple months ago, the rear driver side liftgate speaker and rear door speaker went out. A couple days ago while driving my passenger side liftgate speaker and rear door speaker went out. Front speakers are still working fine.

I did notice, however, that in party mode my rear liftgate speakers still work.

Was wondering if you guys found a resolution for this issue. If it's a new aftermarket headunit or something else?

I am having the same issue. I have a 2012 Limited with a nav system. All that plays is the front speakers whether PM is on or not. No sounds or anything out of the rear speakers or hatch speakers.

I have checked the head unit and all plugs are plugged in. I've checked the fuses and they are all good. Next step will be to check the door speakers and see what I can find.

So, after some troubleshooting, I have found that my tailgate speakers are not there. I'm not too sure what to do about that now. The rear door speakers still aren't working though.

I hooked up some speakers in the tailgate and now the rear door speakers are working. I have no clue why the removed the tailgate speakers but that's what seemed to be my problem. PM on leaves only the fronts and tailgates on.

Rear Speakers Solved 2012 SR5

All 4 rear speakers weren't working and I had already verified the head unit was fine by jumping a spare set of speakers directly into the rear channels on the back of the head unit. (Non JBL with Nav and party mode switch) Reluctantly handed off problem to dealer. Dealer was stumped for a day and a half and brought in master tech on the problem. After service manager told me speaker wires were getting power, I suggested that they test the individual speakers since they are wired in series (liftgate and back door). Bingo...liftgate speakers had blown (I'm blaming my kid) and that made the rear door speakers inoperable since they were in series. New lifgate speakers and all is well! So if anyone has this issue of all 4 speakers being out and your offspring likes to play loud music with excessive bass, check out the individual speakers before you tear the rest of the vehicle apart. Hopefully this will help someone out there. Also be careful of going into party mode with the volume already turned up as this will be funneled to the liftgate speakers at a much higher volume with increased bass and may instantly blow your back speakers.

It also goes without saying if you only have one go bad you will lose the other on that side which may help some others in this thread with only one side out.

But since it just came up, I thought to leave a little info on the subject as to exactly how that system works and perhaps to help anyone who may still have questions about 'Party mode' and how to derive the best sound from this system with a simple modification!

I have the exact same problem an tried everything I no to do. Where is amp n 2013 4 runner ?

Did you ever figure this out? I've checked all the connections and tested the current. The meter reads 1 but barely. I really don't want to break down the dash unless there's a likely fix to be had.

Really dumb question but what should the voltmeter be set on and how much power should they be getting? I got a reading of .1 so I'm guessing that may be almost ambient current, but that may also be dumb.

Doubt anyone will see this but just checking for help

So my rear door speakers and liftgate speakers stopped working. 2011 TE

Fronts work fine. Checked a bunch of things including fuses and looking behind head unit. Checking if I unplugged lift gate speakers.

Turns out the rear left door is barely audible when I dial the sound to back left corner but there is no sound at all from rear right door when I do the same thing. No matter what I do with party mode switch and adjusting sound to back I get nothing at the liftgate.

Since these are in series would it make sense that the right rear door is blown (it looks fine visually and to the touch) and since it’s blown there’s nothing going to liftgate?

I haven’t pulled the door panel off yet to test the speaker with multimeter but I’m hoping to get a confirmation before I do so maybe I can just get a replacement speaker and fix the issue at the same time.

Any thoughts?
