Rear storage question. 96-99 in a 99+

Has anybody put the storage compartment out of a 96-98 4runner and put it into the LEFT side of a 99-02 4runner?

You can but you can't. There's a vent on left side. For pressure.

I thought it would be nice to have 2 storage compartments. One of the left and one on the right.

There's a vent down lower in the body (lower than the floor line). Is that the one you're talking about or is there another up above the floor line?

I cut out the vent below the floor line....no issues.

In mine theres a channel that comes up above the floor line.

Yes below the body line. Plus the gas tank line is on that side. I would just forget about it

Thanks for the info. I'm going to strip my interior in the rear to get at the rear wheel wells to section/tub them and wondered what I might find back there.

Glad to know there isn't an additional vent to deal with.

There's some space back there actually. Above the vent and above the gas tank neck and rear wheel. The bad news is neither the 99+ or the old style compartment lid and opening will fit there so you'd have to fabricate your own pocket, attach it and make your own lid.

I considered it when I had it off for sound deadening but wasn't worth the work to me.
