Rear/tailgate window motor

Does anyone know where I can get a rear/tailgate window motor for a 1986 4-Runner?
Also does anyone know if the front passenger or driver side door window motor can be used to replace the tailgate window motor. I know sometimes identical parts are given different part numbers because the parts are installed in other locations on the vehicle.

i don't think the rear would be the same as the front(s), tailgate window is much heavier.

i've got one that i'm not using. was going to use it for my back window (just finished converting to pick-up), but just a thought. do you just need the motor itself?let me know if you can't find one easily!

I tried ebay but couldn't find one. There are plenty of door motors but no rear window/tailgate motors. How hard would it be to rebuild one or do you think it would be possible.

How much you want for the motor and does it still seem to have plenty of power? My window motor is the original 1986 part. It got slower and slower until I finally had to help it close. I also looking for weather stripping and a good window channel for the rear window. My channel is pretty rusted.
I'm sure your right about a front window motor not being strong enough to work the heavier back window but it seemed strange for them to have manufactured two different window motor. I know many companies make one part becasue it's cheaper to manufacuture one single part than two different ones. The motors look identical. If your willing to sell the motor by it's self that would be great. If you would rather sell the regulator and motor I'm still interested.

Toyota has a tendancy to re-use parts across different models and years. You'll find that the rear drum brakes on your '86 are nearly identical to current Tacomas.

The front window motor is likely used on other models, and was probably around for some time before the 4Runners. The rear window will require a larger motor, and it was likely built for this window, and has probably been used in other applications since.
 
Has anyone tried a 2nd gen motor.I used the cables from one because mine were sticking and toyota wanted 90 for new ones.
 
do you know if its the motor thats bad? have you tried applying just 12 volts to the motor to see if it works. if it does, than you issue could be the computer box for the rear window that is bad.

motors can be found in junk yards, online auto part stores, and your local toyota dealer
 
the spare motor i have is from an '87, it still works, i've got the window sliders from inside the tailgate, just let me know if you want them.
 
I have a working motor, currently attached to the regulator. It's the original from my truck. The motor's good, but the regulator rusted out. The motor is likely rusted to the regulator, but I may be able to get it off...

How much do you want for the rear window assembly? I am in Vancouver, BC.

By the way the 90's Camry Power Window Motor is the same. Those are easier to find in the Junkyards.

Thanks for the info on the rear/front window motors. You saved me some money. I sure would like to get the motor if possible. Still got it?

My attempts to bring the old motor back to life have failed. Can I still get the motor from you?

87 Tailgate regulator needed

I know this is a very old thread, but I need a tailgate window regulator, or a suggestion on how to fix the four broken teeth on mine. The few I saw on ebay have broken teeth or rollers. I just ordered new body panels and going to repaint. The window sags on one side. I bought this abandoned 4runner 20 years ago for $100.00, dropped a motor in it, and its been my daily driver the past 20 years. My grown children can barely remember me driving anything else and it's like part of the family. I recently bought a clean 1982 Toyota pickup to replace my 4runner and realized that, although I love the truck too, it's not anything near the same. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I can see that this is a very old conversation, but I've just recently had to replace my rear window glass, and then later the whole assembly. Thought I'd add my experience to the topic. The glass got skewed upon roll up by a first time passenger, and I did not notice....until I pulled to a stop at the first stop sign and heard a gun shot or kaboom that had 3 dogs up in our laps in a 1/2 second!! It was the glass! It blew up!! It was kind of cool, and definitely exciting!! Anyway, I found my replacement stuff at the local junk yard, put it in right in the parking lot! Then the plastic wheel on one of the lifter arms disintegrated and I couldn't find just a replacement wheel so I just switched out the whole assembly. Great fun!!
