Rear to rear recovery?

Total newb question, but I haven't come across an answer anywhere...

My wife and I each have a 2020 4Runner. Hers is 2WD and mine is 4WD. I have a hitch shackle, but I haven't purchased one for her yet.

My question for you is this: if she were to get stuck, what is the ideal way to recover her vehicle without purchasing a bunch of equipment? Can I simply put the same hitch shackle on hers and then use a recovery strap to pull her out, rear to rear? Also, I assume I would be in 4 low while she would be in neutral - is that right?

For what it's worth, this is a very unlikely scenario with us living in Georgia, but I like to be prepared just in case. Thanks for your help.

Yea, that sounds about right.

You'll get different opinions about the rings on the front frame. Theres no tow weight rating for them, but many including myself have used them as recovery points without issue. Some will claim they are just transport tie downs, but some toyotas just have a screw that goes in for transport. you could get some front recovery points like these Shop | Apex Overland | Off-Road Part Accessories

In general, your plan should work. Id say 95% your fine in recovery for 4 hi as long as you have good traction. 4 low will give you more torque if its really stuck and youre having trouble with traction, but go low and slow

Otherwise - just get an offroad bumper and a winch for safety purposes

The vehicle being pulled should be In the gear of the direction being pulled, 1st for forward, reverse to be pulled out backwards. They can gently gas it to help the recovery, then be ready to brake once out.

The front tow loop is fine. The rear hitch is more then strong enough. You can put the loop end of the strap in the hitch hole, and put then install the hitch pin through the loop on the strap. Been doing this for 15+ years. You can also loop the strap around the hitch tube, and thread it through the loop end.

Assuming you have a strap already (with no metal hooks, only loops) you are ok with what you have, to pull either direction.
