Rear View Camera- Reverse Sensing

Hello Guys,
I stalled my Kenwood DNX 9990HD double din over the weekend-Ipod is working, aux is working,gps is working, and mic is working.

For my final step in the installation process, I attempted to wire in the very long purple wire to the reverse wire.

This (through my research) is a red wire with a yellow stripe, located in the wiring harness below the drivers door sill.

Next, I go into my settings -> Camera -> turn on 'R-Cam Interrupt"

And then nothing happens. :frusty:

I am assuming that where I am tapping into is not the correct wire. Does anyone know which relay/fuse in the dash controls this? Or if not that- what wire?

I was able to get the power and ground and the camera preview working. But that is where I am stuck. any insight would be appreciated!

When I did my anytime camera mod, the wire I tapped into was red with a yellow stripe - but it was behind the radio, not the driver door sill. I don't know if that's the same wire. Have you tried probing it with a multimeter to see if it gets pulled high when you shift into reverse?

FYI, I did my camera override using J.A.'s writeup here and it worked brilliantly; all the information within was correct.

One final thought: The T4R signals reverse by pulling the red/yellow wire up to +12V. Does that logic work with your Kenwood, or is it expecting its purple wire to be pulled down to ground?

it is right under the steering wheel towards the back (pedals). did you happen to wire the reverse camera to a constant source of power? i wired mine to the automatic trunk latch 12v source.

Does that wire only supply power to the reverse lights or does it power other functions?

Would it work to just grab power directly at the reverse light?

follow that, the wire that you need is in there. i dont think its the one you are pointing out behind the radio.

The red with yellow strip on it gets power when you put it into reverse. Basiclly it got the signal from the transmission to turn on the rear light that wire would not have constant power to it. When i wired my switch i didnt bother going to the floor. I tapped mine in the fuse box the wire is closer.

just to clarify, red wire with yellow stripe is not the same as red wire with yellow stripe and silver dots.

No fuse its going to be a harness plug that goes to the fuse box. If looking at the fuse box you will see a plug to the left of the box. You might need to strip some tape off to tap into the RED WITH YELLOW STRIP. to test to make you have the right wire grab a test light and go in and out of reverse to make its the right wiree the test light should go on and off when going in and out of reverse gear

Ok, so I am just going to run the wire to a damn Red with yellow stripe Wire. tap into it, and call it a Day. And the general consensus is to tap into the one above the pedals, not in the dash.

I will report back tonight.

Yeap just tap into it and call it a day like he said. Thats what i did.

Just a tip.....if you're using the push to close wire taps like these; 3M (18-14) Wire Taps Blue 25 Pcs. make sure you clamp them good. I've had several instances where they didn't get a good connection.

Same thing i did on mine tapped it right under the door sill no issues what so ever

I see this thread is all sorted out, but for others, there should be a reverse wire as part of the R9 connector located right behind the head unit. This connector has 3 wires coming out of it. One is speed sensor (purple I think), one is parking brake (green I think), and the last is Reverse (red with yellow).

Mine was red with a yellow stripe. It makes it easier since it is all right behind the head unit.

This would save quite a bit of hunting for wires in other places. I personally soldered all mine instead of connectors, but both would work.
