Rear View Mirror...

Hey all,

A question about the rear view mirror. My '97 didn't have one when I got it last week. It looks as though the attachment point was a small box thingy where the windshield and headliner meet. Anyone know where I can get a replacement one? Finding 4Runner parts at wreckers around here is a no-go. And I don't really want to get one that glues to the windshield if I can avoid it. Figured it would hurt to ask here.

I wouldn't be so skeptical about the glued on ones. I mean, I can't think of a vehicle these days that doesn't come that way. They make specific glue for it. You can get any kind of mirror you want, but if you really wanna go all out get one of those cool rear views that dissipate light. I know some models of the 4Runner came with them forget the technical name for it.

I suppose it wouldn't be too bad to go with a generic one. Just wondered if anyone had a source on one that would look a bit factory.

What year is your 4runner?

What part do you actually need? The mirror bolts to a bracket that is different for different years, I think there are 2 designs of this bracket.

You should just look on here and yotatech for someone parting out a 4runner with the same design as you (and color if the older design).

It sounds like you have the newer design. I think they updated it in 99.

Someone parting out a 4r is likely to still have this piece as it isn't in high demand.

Well, still just check with people parting out on the forums. I bet you can get one for under $20.

I think the mirror parts might be the same for all years, so any 3rd gen could be a donor.

Yeah, looks like I'll wade into that pool again. I spent the other day pouring over countless threads here and on yotatech, looking for stuff I may want. I never really got anywhere. I wish there was an easier way to find parts.

go to Toyota Parts Zone and key in your VIN

then go into the diagrams and view your rear view mirror. Obtain the part number then shop and compare.

You need junkyard help we can help you out but shipping to the Great White is costly. See also Yota Tech Marketplace for part outs.

ModSquad over on Yota Tech is somewhere near you up there. He routinely has part outs.

Congrats on someone keeping that running well enough for that many kms or miles.
